I’ve purchased a second hand 828 with 6000hrs on the clock. I know there’s been many threads on here saying they are bad and some say good. The previous owner said hasn’t missed a beat and doesn’t use engine oil. I’m wondering what are the tell tale signs of the engine or what’s to look out for.? Or any other things to look out for or know about the tractor would be good, thanks.

Has it been dealer serviced?

What age is it? neighbours 2013 model been fine, our 2015 one is I think an S4(but cant remember) and on engine 3 at 10500hrs. We did extended warranty, 1st failure was covered by warranty, dealer serviced all it’s life and fendt stood on for 2nd failure which was at >10,000hrs.
tell tale signs are eng oil usage and heavy breathing under load. The heavy breathing is what we’ve noticed first on both occasions. Breather is on rhs just in front of cab, you can smell it from the back window, white smoke with an acrid smell, not really an oily smell, more bitter, if that makes sense.
other than the engine issues, the adblue has been a steady pain in the backside but that’s not unique to any specific brands or models. Nothing else has given much bother. Odd solenoid, did a cv joint on the prop last year, it’s mechanically solid.
Looking at it as a complete package, yes it’s had a bit of down time, dealer has never seen us stuck though, which is a credit to them. When it gets traded on, I reckon it’s going to be one of the cheaper tractors we’ve owned.

It’s a 2015. Thanks for that. It’s a lovely tractor just weary about the engine and things you read/hear.

A friend of mine has a 2020 828 with 4000 hours. Engine has just packed in but fendt covering the whole cost of new one.

I would keep up with it. All ours have been dealer serviced to the book and Fendt stood by then even out of warranty.

They won’t stand on for everything by any means at all. But we’ve had an engine in 828 and a couple of other things on other models that were out of warranty but we felt shouldn’t have happened. Talked to dealer and Fendt and first thing they asked was if it had been dealer serviced. Never had any gearbox problems on any of them, that’s over 6 tractors with 9000hrs on highest one. But only me & big Spencer drive them and look after machine/trailer brakes.
