I run romneys and romney x ewes, no feed, turnips then grass in the lambing paddocks. I am having a run of lambs with a leg back, I am halfway through and have sorted out more stuck lambs than the whole of last years lambing. It is also not helped by the lambs being big, I used some new lleyn...
Scanned at the weekend, 19/230 empty, normally it would be 5 or 6. Scanner said most of the empties were in lamb but the foetus is now dead, visible but no heartbeat and that they had died in the previous 48 hours. We are due to start lambing 1/4.
The ewes have been on turnips for the last...
I have 40 odd acres of ryegrass that my lambs were due to move onto, unfortunately it has developed a rust problem. I expect that the lambs wont be too keen to eat it, if I can find somewhere else for the lambs to go in the short term, will the grass recover or is that it?
Morning
I am having two issues with the raceweigh, they are more an inconvenience than anything, the lambs back into the rear entrance to the crate and stand on the frame of the drafting doors. This gives an inaccurate weigh and slows the process down trying to get the lamb in the right...
The last week has taken its toll on my forage rape turnips mix. The ewes are 7 weeks out from lambing and this is to last them for the next 5 weeks. It looks better this morning but I am worried it will have lost its nutrient value. The turnips are fine and the ewes are eating what there is of...
4 NZ Romney rams, bought as shearlings at the Wairere auction 2017. Selected on high EBVs for number of lambs, lamb survival and worm resistance. Need to move them on as their daughters are now part of the flock and time for some new blood. Not worked hard, covered around 60 ewes each, never...
Get a few of these each year, save some ewes depending on how soon I catch it. I understand it is caused by E coli in the environment. Ewes are romneys and whilst crutched out are still carrying a bit of wool near the udder, they like to lie around at the base of the trees and under the hedges...
How do people stop their handling systems getting nicked. Mine is in a locked shed but wonder if there is anything I can do to it to make it less easy to make off with.

My main flock is vaccinated for toxo and enzo, since we had a campy outbreak a couple of years ago we vaccinate our own replacements when they come into the flock.
We upped the numbers and bought in a bunch of ewes with no vaccination history. Plan was to run the two flocks apart until...
Evening
Been offered some grazing over the winter in a vineyard, anyone done this before. The sheep will be out before the vines bud in the spring.
Any thoughts very welcome

Anyone run these? Thinking of trying a lleyn or highlander across some of my romney ewes. Hoping it might add a bit of prolificacy to the replacements but have some concerns I will lose the robustness of the romney.
We dry up in the summer and grass can be tight, the romneys tend to bounce...
Treated the lambs for cocci this afternoon and looking to move onto a new bite of grass. Is it the same deal with cocci as with worms? Leave them on the dirty pasture for a few days before a move? Or can they be moved sooner.
