Road tax should be scrapped and the revenue raised from fuel price increase.

Of course it should, then high fuel users would pay the most.

But of course it would still need a system of keeping records, which would incur a small fee to start with, increased with each budget, then we'd end up paying twice.

Always remember & love the "first car"..... a 1.3 Marina, reg was PBW 215M... had some fun in that, handled like an overloaded coal truck..... then I picked up a 1.8TC engine & wedged it in...scary times when the brakes weren`t much better than my pushbike!! :):):ROFLMAO::love:

My selection of vehicles hasn`t improved any over the years!!

My dad always had Morris 1100/1300 cars & then 'progressed ' to Marinas . [emoji33]

What with four large high performance tyres every 10,000 to 12,000 miles, plus £500+ road tax, the Audi Q7 really pished me off. I feel much better driving the Honda which has only just over £100 road tax and is still on its second set of tyres at nearly 50,000 miles. Better still in the Qashqai with its zero rated road tax, which goes like a little rocket, but isn't 4wd.
Neither tows of course. And the Honda doesn't have low range, which meant it failed on a hill the other day. It was a bit extreme for it though, to say the least.

Off now to load two barrens into the box then back to fetch a milk tanker/trailer to cart some milk. Will tow about 120 miles in total this afternoon. Yesterday it was with Landcruiser. Today it is the Ranger's turn.

@YorkshireAndrew my interest in cars started when I helped my Uncle restore the rotten wood in his Traveller, then I got the Marine....followed by an Escort XR3i.... then an MG Metro...... Rover 3500 Sd1..... BMW 5 series..... now on a Suzuki Vitara 1.6 GLX.
I don`t think I`ve paid much over £500 for any of them! Then again I`m not a wealthy farmer...:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: :LOL:

Totally agree. Why should someone who does 5000 miles a year in a big car pay more road tax than a sales rep in a mondeo doing 50.000.

Doh! Do the maths! A rep on 50,000 miles/year pays far more tax than the 5,000 miler!

Pay as you go car tax already exists for people with thirsty cars, heavy acceleration/braking or the opposite with careful economic driving in small engined cars. It's called FUEL EXCISE DUTY! :banghead:

Rules change again next year. Think the top rate is £2k for year 1, then a fixed rate for year 2 onwards.

£140 per year for vehicles under £40k and £450 per year for +£40k

No no no, cart springs, a weak crank, high front roll centre unless you ruin any ride comfort and put it onto the bump stops......

Far more speed, handling, comfort, and no bodywork tinworm.

And a v6 purr that removes female underwear faster than brass rubbings or any etchings :joyful: (well it worked with my first wife  )

Princess Anne had one you know:p:D

Its a reliant scimitar isnt it? Does the fibreglass or what ever its made of last alright?

If he's complaining about £500 tax I can't really see him paying close on £80k to replace the motor, can you? Very helpful suggestion though (y) well done.

Now now, you are being fasistious

Now, now, you are being Facetious a tad! It's a bit like saying, spend £50 and I'll save you £10!
