Got a fair bit of logs to split and maybe more on the way so making a log splitter inbetween sheep lambing, 16 ton of push with 500 mm stroke, got the beam for free and the 200 x 10mm plate the box section is from a old tank frame. I got the Ram, hoses ,and spool from flowfit for £233. may get back to it today sheep dependent.

Top job that [emoji106][emoji106]
From personal experience you want the splitting blade as sharp as a razor, so when you get something it can’t split it cuts it and maybe the blade slopping forward towards the ram so that log can’t ‘pop’ out of the top.
Let us know how you get on with it [emoji106]
Tidy work , might be in the wrong thread with all that paint 🤣🤣

Almost there just need to paint the hydraulic fittings silver, but the paint on the spool block is still a bit soft, to mask .It may be a bit shiny for the job but I had the Dodge Viper Pearl paint in the garage for years left over from my old race car been dying to use it on something , she does look good big test tomorrow log splitting time

Is it possible to put an adjustable stop on the rail to prevent the ram retracting all the way each time? Saves a lot of time with short logs, though it needs a lot of logs of similar length.

Looks good, wont blow away in the wind anyway. I'm usually working alone so welded an 18" table to the side of the splitter to act as a loading bay sped up the job immensely, saves bending down to pick up every stick.
