2 row cubicle shed length

I have a slalom slurry system under the slats and we are mixing 560' of slurry channel 8' deep with 1 mixer at 1 corner with no problems. Thats 4 channels under a shed 140' long all joined up in a slalom system. I would build the same again if the need arises, not a cheap option but no hassle and safe.

I've seen the thread and photos about your shed and I'm very envious but unfortunately my site simply won't allow a wide shed hence the long and narrow idea.

You got one then guy?
Had to think about this post because I wasn't sure what you meant, but I've seen it on YouTube now! It looks a bit OTT for my little set up!!
No, OTT for mine too but if you were running a tanker would not be a difficult DIY project. Saw it in America where they had 4 passages for 7000 jerseys so you can imagine the length.

No reason why the system wouldn't work in the same way, My shed is 90' wide so you are just halving it and making it longer.
Ok, I see what you mean. Would the walls work out right? I'm going to have to go back and study your pictures again!

I think realistically slats may be one step too far for my budget though. Anyone care to shoot my grand plans down with some slat sections prices? (Bearing in mind we can't even get an artic in and transport seems to make up a fair chunk of concrete price).

@Fergieman - what type of mixer do you have? We have a slalom system in one of our sheds and we were persuaded, to save costs, that our slurry pump could be used to circulate enough slurry around the system to keep it moving but we end up with a small stream in the middle and dry material building up on the sides & corners! Often wondered about putting a submersible electric propeller in ( it nears to be submersible as cows walk over all the slats and surrounding area.

We have a tractor mounted propeller that slides into a hole in the wall (same size as the square guard around propeller). It is a bit of hassle lifting the lids off and sliding it and sometimes dosn't get done as often as it should but when we put it in regardless of how long it has been within an hour the whole passage width is moving and broken up. I often wonder about an electric submersible one that could be automatic through the night but we are single phase, so it would probally mean a genny to run it.

If you are thinking of autoscrapers I think you will need more than one slat in the middle, 150' is a v long run and will create a sizeable bow wave
Longer runs mean the scrapers need running more often, I’m on 240 foot with no Chanel, not ideal but not a real problem either. In an ideal world I’d have a Chanel in the middle, but as the shed was extended away from the slurry Chanel that wasn’t a cheap option and I can’t honestly say it’s a problem other than when the scrapers don’t run for some reason such as a power cut.

If doing the job again from scratch I’d consider a Chanel in the middle but possibly a cheaper option would be to make the passageway wider as that would cut down the depth of slurry in front of the scraper, I think that could be a better option overall, as if the passageway was wide enough to fit a scraper either side of the track it would be a doddle scraping out with the tractor if there was a problem with the auto scrapers.

Another good reason not to build a shed on top of a slurry tank, just isn’t worth the risk

I got the job of fishing 5 cows out of next doors slatted tank, the slats were only 10 year old when one failed,we only got 2 cows out alive and in all honesty not one of us considered gas when we were fishing them out.

Reviving this thread.

Hoping to start work on some new buildings and a parlour this year, we would like to have 2 sheds, one each side of the collecting yard housing 150 cows each, we are having an open channel at the bottom for the scrapers to dump into but obviously the sheds will be 100 metres long to fit 150 cubicles in each shed. Idea is we can feed on the outside of each and not have to open any gates to feed the cows or drive through any muck.

Question is how do we deal with the bow wave of slurry?

Slats halfway up the shed? How does this slurry get to the bottom channel? Twin wall pipe?

Or do we go for slats up the middle of the scraper passages?

Scraper passages will be 4.5metres wide

All ideas welcome!

I’m putting up a two row shed this summer. 200’, 90+ cubicles . I’d like a channel across the middle of the shed to collect the slurry, planning on putting a peristaltic pump in to transfer sandy slurry to the adjacent store. (Recommendation by @Serup .)

What bedding products? Auto scraper running pretty frequently?
