Don't be so ambitious 50 cows at £1 liter would be my utopia if international playboy was already taken by @Irish NZ

But 50 cows @ £1 then his 240 cows @£1 he will be quids in......I'm sure there are some faults with @Irish NZ lifstyle, I'm just struggling to see them currently.

Hey it not always a farmers version of lifestyles of the rich and famous.......

oh wait.... ignore the last statement.

If you are getting someone else to do all the milking then a swing over.

But is a doubled up parlour not easier on the operator ie backs shoulders etc? If your going to be milking twice a day most days?

If you think about the mechanics of milking, then for prep time there is a lot less dodging around plant with a swing over. Maybe be better for you than milking in a doubled up, although I've not milked in a modern doubled up.

For a given length of parlour doubled up is quicker. For one man I think its nice to have a short parlour less marching up and down and easier to fill and empty, but that's just what works for us. If your individually feeding in the parlour then for two parlours comparable in speed I would have thought they cost roughly the same? i.e. 30:30 vs 20:40...........I suppose the only down side with doubled up is more units to connect to the wash at the end.

Thinking about it more the above post is only true up to about 40/40 after which you would need to move to a rapid exit swingover. Best of both worlds. I wonder how one man would get on in a rapid exit 40/80???

The whole point of a swing over is combined efficiency of man and machine, no need for rapid exit for a swing over. The cows leave and refill while the other side is being milked, plenty of time. A swing over with autodipping is the pinnacle of herring bone parlour efficiency in my book. In certain parts of the world where legalisation allows the only operation is to cup the cows and walk to the next one.

I'm not sure what you mean when you say efficiency of man and machine. Are you saying more efficient per unit? Are you saying you wouldn't need a rapid exit for a 40/80? For one man remember....

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.
