I'm not sure stress is the right word for stock generally, although there are moments.

It's just relentless though day in day out, someone has to be there.
I guess it depends what the farm is geared up for really. All stock place trying to start out with some arable would probably be massive stress. Vice versa too. Split down the middle here which suits us well.

Clive, do you drill directly into that? It just amazes me if you do that the drill doesn't block, be very interested to see an 'after' pic if you get chance to take one. Thanks.

yes straight into that with some soltice plus avadex on the drill next week, will glyphosate it a week after drilling and shut the gate until march, similar approach last year grew us our best wheats last year

there is no way you could block a 750a that we have managed to find yet (and we have tried our best !)

the CC is basically left over bits of FS linseed, millet, beans and peas so didn't cost much

no - that's a cheat really, it's some summer cover drilled in mid June on some soil in desperate need of improvement, I figured with prices as they were this year i wouldn't be missing out on a lot of GM from a cash crop but should hopefully reap the rewards next year through better wheat ?

My post harvest CC's are nothing special this year, we have been dry here and growth limited, still worthwhile though and should be drilling into the CC after OSR later today I hope so will get some pics

Don't understand...you mean you think they definitely are stressful or agree with me that they definitely are not? Just my view anyway. Well managed stock are far easier than grain I'd say. A shower of rain doesn't ruin the day and I've never done a full day of stock work in my life. Today for example: half an hour feeding the cattle in the morning, then 11hrs in a tractor for next year's wheat. So which one is easier!?

Animals = 365 days a year
Crops = about 100 days per year

Very true. They're a tie, but very easy if managed properly. Crops= plenty of 12+ hour days and a shower of rain can ruin the day's plans.. Animals= very few days more than an hour, and they basically just do their own thing with no worries.

To add to my previous post, so far today I've spent 1 hour changing metal, 4 hours in a tractor, and 20 minutes feeding happy cattle. Afternoon and evening will be spent in a tractor as well, while cattle graze away without a worry!
