I have 150 tonnes in the heap in the shed off some very sticky land. Harvested a week ago. Hoping the clay will crack a bit as it dries in the heap and shell off in the cleaner loader. Loaded some straight over the side and the return said 9% dirt tare. Hope to get that down a bit. Clean as a whistle off the sand but can't get on due to wet holes that I am trying to sort out. Nightmare.
Seed order posted this morning. Area its destined for is presently a lake. Glad I didn't get the salt on early.
Dirt will fall off after being in the barn

We tried some KWS epd primed seed on a fodder beet variety called Beretta. I was impressed with the priming, the seed germinated quickly and evenly and the crop grew away well. Unimpressed with the variety though, too hard for our needs.
And was he seed pelleting nice and uniform? Last year several of us were unimpressed by the pelletting by germains which was not up to previous standards. Notice we got promo bumf from germains this morning.

Hi all,

I work for KWS UK and we’ve sold thousands of units of our pelleted seed over the last few years. BBRO have independently tested our seeds too

If you want more information about EPD then follow this link to our website: https://www.kws.com/gb/en/consulting/seeds/seed-quality/sugarbeet/

As an example on price, DAPHNA is less than £200 per unit if you choose the KWS pellet option.

If you have any further questions, feel free to get in touch – [email protected]

It's a shame you didnt put a little more work into promoting you products in the run up to the seed order forms being sent out. I would have tried some epd2 and with the beet job how it is every saving is worth having but until the order form dropped on my mat I'd never heard of it or was even aware that kws did a seed priming and I wasnt sure about committing to something i have absolutely no idea about, hence i stuck with what i know enrich 100.

Did the BS seed form have box to tick if you wanted KWS primed seed?
I ask as I don't know if I / we the growers have to have bs seed. Or can we order directly through KWS?
I have a meeting tomorrow with a rep but have also received an e-mail from KWS suggesting to just fill the bs form out but be quick to ensure you get what you want.

All seed has to be ordered via BS using the form. The form has all seed treatment options for that given variety eg enrich 100+ vibrance or enrich + vibrance + force or for some the option of epd+ vibrance+/- force.

Like last year not all varieties are available with all treatment options.

The only variety that can be ordered direct from KWS Is the new conviso smart one.

Bloody british sugar are only ones who can supply seed and charge accordingly and only buyer for crop and tell you what they will pay you too.woukd never happen in other industries.
Nick...
It's not ideal but no-one has to grow for them (and I know you no longer do) but some of us quite like it.

If I want a KWS pelleted seed and variety I still need to fill in the bs form.
I should be able to go directly to any breeder and order seed that I believe suits my land.
I didn't have much choice last year and I haven't yet received the form for the '20 season. The later it takes for that form to arrive can only mean limited choice again.

Just out of curiosity @Breckland Boy but what varieties do you find do best on your ground and what in particular do you look for in a variety.
The only thing I look for is low bolting on early drilled beet.
If conditions are OK I will drill in late Feb or early March.
Soil warms up quickly due to having little moisture. An early crop can deliver an extra 20 t/ha
An early drilled crop that suffers from cold weather will be held back until it warms up again and not really suffer a yield penalty compared to waiting.
So as far as I am concerned there is nothing to lose by drilling early.
Unless you drill the wrong variety early!
Hence vital to get the preferred choice

Posted my order for vixen yesterday down in the village. Probably be 5 days before it reaches Peterborough knowing Royal Snail. Lets have a punt on a newish variety. Might as well, as this years is disappearing into a pissmire and proabably wont get harvested till the frost has nadgered it. I like its rust resistance. This years Haydyn has been hammered by rust. Reasonably low bolter count with early drilling as well which has to be good.......and its cheap....ish. Well not that cheap considering its coated with clay and a bit of mystery magic. The stuff I'm sending to the factory is also coated in clay, but i wont be thanked for that. Grandad always used to say they wouldnt be satisfied if each beet was hand washed and wrapped in brown paper, and my cousin reckons their dirt tare scales zero at 5%. Oh well.
