Are you guys having a funny grass season so far? Weather can't seem to make its mind up. Earlier varieties of grass went like stink and lots of bulk but the medium or later perennials seem to be taking their time but look to be very very thick...
Won't be at ours for at least a month, never had sheep on it during winter.

Amazing the difference in our little island.

25% in theory

I think the recognised/accepted ideal DM% for silage has changed over time. I always believed a slightly drier silage would ensure the material did not to the ferment that it would become so acidic and so be a bit kinder to the cows. Of course this means using an additive becomes useful to ensure clamp stability and enough fermentation occurs.

Wholecrop and maize are both loaded with more starch and so can afford to be a bit drier.

Any pictures of the bout of grass?

Alot of that stuffs all show and no go in my experience. Looks a great crop, then you go in with mower and not much there.

You mean like all fur coat but no knickers?:)

Just had to use that saying. Gotta like it.

I pointed out to the missus that it isn't necessarily a bad thing, but she wasnt as amused as I was.
