I find it interesting and surprising that some farmers these days won’t go in with cows to bed them down unless they’re all in head yokes. I wonder how much the reduced handling due to the feeder wagon, straw blower etc have had on the flightiness of cattle.

I drive among mine with spread able and they seem to enjoy that , also have a wander though them at night , I got them a brush last week they love that , this week I’m getting the a radio what harm can it do !

Why do you say straw bedder have a lot to answer for? I don't disagree, but don't slats have equally as much?

Like I say I don't disagree, but a lot of folks that have slatted pens have no need to walk through pens which is just as bad if cattle are of a flighty nature.

Why not they actually make a very good cross , the worst cross known to man kind is Limmy and Angus , but Limmy Galloway make some good cattle if handled right to keep the temper down.

A few of my ‘very wild’ Limousin cattle called in for a bit crack. Not handled to make them very wild just bred that way.
PS hope their legs are straight!!

oh in this case he'd roped the kids in...... but yes, I've tied cows in a shippon, and started my days with porridge from their milk.

(been hand milking a belt thats lost her calf, in case I need her for a spare. She's so quiet I'm just kneeling beside her in a pen of 4. Just a run of the mill cow in the hill herd. milks pretty thick in yer tea though!)
