On my 2nd. There first was a pre facelift and was a bit temperamental
the one I have now is excellent, lifetime mpg is 24.8 but it’s hilly round here and is used for towing a fair bit, will do 30mpg plus on a run.
it’s comfy pulls well and faster than fast enough. Did 500 miles in mine the other day and everyone was a pleasure. Interior is nicely appointed for a pickup as well although I do find the facelift version dash controls a bit fiddly and the touch screen distracting.
towing it’s rock solid stable and effortless even with 3.5 ton on the back.
would buy another in a heartbeat.
anything pre facelift wants the engine oil pump replacing as a matter of urgency as there failure is a well known thing. Don’t expect any help from Ford once warranty has expired. Later models have an up rated spec pump but part no. Is the same.
A chap I know got through 3 engines and two auto boxes in his whilst still in warranty. He would be a hard driver and tows a mini digger behind quite a bit. Last time I spoke he had just taken delivery of a new 4 pot version , haven't heard if he has broken that yet!Anyone run one? Had much bother with them or know of common problems with them? What’s fuel use like pottering about and towing?

If it’s a facelift version theoretically it should have the updated spec pump. However I have heard there was maybe a crossover of bits used up and Ford aren’t exactly helpful on the subject. dealers I asked a couple years back pretty much denied there is a problemJust bought 2016 model 25ooo miles
Is oil pump ok in them
Yes 3.2 engines suffer the same issue. I know of 2 locally that let go and had to have new engines.Cheers for the quick reply! Looking at a new one, had a drive in one the other day and was impressed!
Know of 2 of the 2.2 engines that did the oil pump does the 3.2 use the same one?
Hilly round here too and often have tri axle ifor fully loaded on the back.
Limp home mode be probably the EGR valve been blocked up. I had that with my 2015 spec wildtrak.I had a 2015 wildtrak auto for 4 years. Was a great thing to drive with fuel in mid 20smpg at the worst. In the last couple of months I had it the engine kept on going into limp home mode for no reason. Traded it in for another make of vehical as the Ford dealers did not have any interest in looking at it far less sorting it.
A friend bought a brand new face-lift ranger wildtrak 3.2 auto around the same time as I changed mine. It didn't even make 40 miles before the engine blew up.
Revised ones are fine apparently as long as oil changing is done as per the description laid out earlier. It’s a well known fault and easily sorted by replacing the pump with the new version. Quote I had was for about £450 from ford main dealer although they didn’t seem to know why I wanted it done. Are oil pumps that bad
Scarring me know
