T3 5455 poverty-pack was nearer £35k than £25k, but I do remember T2 basic Speedshift 5445 tractors selling for £20k at some point, probably around your 2005 mark. No air-con, air-seat, adjustable steering column or anything for that money. They were certainly far more affordable than today, but a basic 90hp World Tractor [4709?] can be bought for around £30k if I'm not mistaken.

Have a look at this site for the value of money over time. Put £28,000 in for 2005 and see what money buys you the same goods today. I'm perfectly sure that if I told you it is the equivalent of £41,000 today you would think I'm pulling your leg. But it is. Add a loader on top and take account of the extra spec you expect today and you will indeed be looking at your £50k

As I said, the tractors aren't too much out of line. It is farm incomes that have become a bad joke which makes it seem as if kit prices have gone out of control
We had a quote for a 5455 snoopy nose dyna 4 in 2006. £26k

1997 6400 mid spec new £29000
2002 6420s mid spec new £29000
2004 6420s mid spec new £29000
2018 6130r mid spec new £66000
Ps i didn't buy the last one!

I was lucky to buy one of these (2002 6420s) ten years ago. The price was 20k at 3700 hours with autoquad, full suspension, large Michelin tires. Obviously, had to pay some for the middle man in Lithuania, but otherwise has been a great machine (except, maybe, vp44 pump). If I sold it today at 8000 hours, nut sure I would get much lesser. But will keep it as long as it goes :)

The r are getting knocked now as always happens with the new ranges from JD the 30 s 20 we’re knocked when new now good ones are wanted the r will probably be the same

Or they could be only worth scrap value if overseas buyers can't deal with the increasingly complex electronics, common rails, emission paraphernalia etc. There is a good reason why the 10 series remain a desirable model.

On a seperate note a lot of modern used excavators dont get exported as the would be buyers can not cope with the electronics when machines go wrong.it will be the same with tractors.i think we are approaching the time when tractors get used and recycled like is now happenning with cars.very rare to see a 10 year old car on the road today.people cant afford to repair them so they get scrapped and recycled.we may end up renting everything and then let manufacturers sort out end of life with products.lots of cars are rented nowdays as are I suppose tractors and other machines like trucks etc

There choices of old tractors without electronics will run out then they will have to learn to fix them.or the Indian s And Chinese will make what they want. So our old ones will be scrap as you say

Why wont after market electronics come to the market, or even mechanical replacements.
Lots of Ford 66/76 got their gearboxes changed before being exported.
Many Triumph 2.5 PI got converted back to carbs

I beg to differ. There’s more ten year old cars on the road today than ever. They just don’t look like ten year old cars. They last much much longer these days than they used to. In another topic there are people claiming between 350,000 and 600,000 miles from the original engines in cars. Personally I reckon 350,000 is doable with an overhaul but 600k miles or a million kilometres is pushing credulity a bit with a taxi.
Common rail fuel systems are simpler to repair than mechanical ones, given a laptop, which third world countries do have these days.
What some customers don’t like in diggers is electronic joysticks and other controls that are not repairable or even bodgable.

I said i knew him well i didnt say i was best buddies with him

Sound like he’s shafting you to me. I’ve looked at a few 6430’s recently and yours is worth at the very least £30k but probably closer to £34k. So the dealer has a margin on the 6150 price and then was trying to take you for another £6k-£10k. Sounds like he was wanting about £15k out of the deal!

Or of course loads of other 6430’s around the country are over priced and your dealer is the only genuine dealer around! :)

One months milk cheque would cover a new 6420s. This months milk cheque would cover a third of same spec 6130r.

Modern tractors (and cars) depreciate massively due to complexity (emmisions) and repair costs (dealer per hr and parts).

We are, as an industry, well and trully buggered, by labour and machinery :banghead:

I've said it before and I'll say it again until I'm blue in the beak, we are buggered by unsustainably low prices for what we sell, not by the cost of labour and machinery.
