Hello chaps.

The 732 is now mostly finished! I might give it another coat of paint as when i put the fingers back on i did scratch a little bit of paint off (as the vapormatic stonleigh grey i have been using seems to not adhere particulaly well, though this may have something to do with my not prepairing the surface well enough!). did a quick test as the light was going this evening and it cuts allright, the blade definitely needs a sharpen and some of the sections look a little worse for wear, though you cant complain really for the price i paid (it was free). Overall i think it turned out OK. Not the best restoration in the world but not bad for the first one i've done... It was in a pretty sorry state before. The story was that it was used behind a little T20 by my grandmother back when the machines were brand new! It did used to have part of the number plate painted onto the belt cover (sadly it was too rubbed off to make out the full number plate, would have been nice to track down what happened to that old fergy). I took the mower completely apart, wire brushed and painted with quite a lot of the vapourmatic stoneleigh grey paint and then bolted it all back together. I think if i were doing it again i would have painted it with something like ZG90 and then put the vapourmatic over the top of that. Either that or the paint just needs longer to set ( i gave some bits a month and it had worked in places...) short video of it running up for the first time (after all the shimms had been done) below, along with a couple of pictures. Your thoughts are welcome!

I'm thinking that a quick sharpen up of the blade and adjusting the top link down a bit will make her cut lower and cleaner? I never had a very good experience with this mower before i restored it as the bar went banana when it was stored for 30ish years (as i am told is fairly normal for finger mowers). I do also have the swathboard but it needs a new broom handle!

This is one of the reg that was painted on the back and gives you an idea of what she looked like before i restored her. The worst thing with it was the bar was bent and so it didnt cut right.:

I was just thinking today how the old fingerbar mowers used to leave the hay out ready to dry, unlike modern mower conditioners which leave it in a swath.
