A Day a Month

I seen a neat idea on Facebook that I thought would be fun to try. After further thinking I thought I would also share it here as many members don't experience such seasonal differences as this area.

The goal is to take photos of the same view once a month. I've chosen three views around the acreage that I think will help show the differences that seasons and weather can bring. Each photo will have different tidbits for recent happenings and changes shown, current weather and any other interesting things I think up, like which animals photo bombed! Feel free to ask questions or speak away, I'm hardly going to hold this to a photo only thread (Like I could on here )

Recent weather was very cold in December, think -30's with wind chills in the -40s, and snow. Finally the world is white again! Began warming up with the New Year and it's nice to go outside again :ROFLMAO:

The Front Yard - Here you can see Conn's highway out to his patrol route as well as random spots where he's decided to sleep and melted into the snow

The Field Across the Road - I'm hoping this view will show a nice variety of crops as the year goes on (and crop growth!). Right now it's just canola stubble.

The Back Pond - This little dip is a water collector when the water table is high here. It should give a good example of how much rain we get this year. Sassy, the horse, likes it as she has a good view across the field towards the neighbours cows. Willow is my new puppy and she hasn't been back there yet so it was all a new view to her!

They're forecasting a prolonged clipper going through this week so there could be some serious snowfall coming! I'm excited for it. It melted good a couple of times in January so there's quite a layer of ice around the yard but it's now buried. Maybe it'll make an appearance in March's photos!

The Back Pond - Nobody wanted to come out back with me today. They all stayed back by the barn out of the wind

It's still very white here...

Just finished a nice snow storm. March came in like a lion so we'll see how that saying goes. Everything is fresh and pristinely white now! Just in time for a forecast pushing 10 above this weekend. Might get a bit sloppy!

The Field Across the Road - The grass in the bottom left is slowly disappearing :ROFLMAO: Crazy to think last year they were starting to seed around mid April. Time will tell how this year goes.

The Back Pond - Conn and Willow both came with me today. They had to follow the horses trails and see if they lead to anything interesting.

March did not go out like a lamb.

This year is kind of dull.... everything is just white all the time. Normally there's a bit more variation to what the scenery actually looks like  One day spring will come... one day.... Just not today. Or tomorrow. Or probably even next week based on the forecast

The Back Pond

Local farmers have said that this time last year they were in fields harrowing. Could go out and harrow some snow I suppose.

Look! The snow is gone :ROFLMAO: The Poplars are budding causing the bees to be buzzing. The grass is taking off, the frogs are noisy barstewards, even seeding has started! Just to give a bit of an idea how fast this can really happen (Obviously within a month), we had a snowfall warning and storm watch on April 16th. On April 19th I was off to work for the my longer shift and it was warming up. By the end of that shift, April 25, the snow was mostly gone. Local flooding was in full swing with roads and bridges washing out. On April 28th it did really approach 30 degrees, that's not a typo, meaning the variances for the month was almost 60 degrees from coldest to warmest. Seeding has started this week for most people, the fields are mostly dry enough and they've got the marathon month to get crops in before June.

Current temperature: 28C, feels like the inside of an oven.
Normal temperature: Max 21C Min 8C
Wind: 8 km SW, gusting to 13 km
Humidity: 16%

Weather Info from May:

- total precipitation of 24.9 mm

Getting dry... June is our wet month so hopefully it kicks in soon. The crops all made it in in May and the germination is there, now they just need some rain! Same with the pastures. Folks are waiting as long as they can to put the cows out because the grass is not growing back well with no water underneath it. But! Tomorrow! Severe thunderstorm warnings with chances of hail and lots of wind and tornadoes! I'll take it if it brings rain

The Front Yard - The apple trees didn't bloom for more than a couple of days this year. It was just too darn hot, those little blossoms cooked and wilted and were done.

The Field Across the Road - The wheat is up!

The Back Pond - Is slowly shrinking. I'm actually surprised it still has as much water in it as it does. Must be the source of gazillions of mosquitos that come out every evening :shifty:

WOW that is a fast turnaround
Hope you get some rain, soon.... I can't believe your humidity levels!:eek::eek:

It seldom drops out of the 75-100% range on our patch - even when we were dry, we had a dew most every day. 91% RH today.

Great thread BTW, thanks for remembering
While I usually don’t pay attention or care two turtle turds worth about the humidity, when it came to comparing globally I thought it might be interesting. I was actually quite surprised how high it was in the winter! Goes to show how unusual the precipitation was as I really don’t think it’s nornally that high. People tend to get nose bleeds from the dry air in winter :ROFLMAO:

I’ll try and remember to check what the humidity is tomorrow and Sunday once this system starts going through
