A lot of freight is hauled on trains out of the Mendips as they move stone from the quarries. It is a shame they didn't put in a train track for Hinkley C instead of hauling it by truck though.
They are class 37s reclassified to 97 as they are ERTMS equipped. Deltics are class 55.More supprised the old Deltecs are still in use ,,thought went out of service 20 years ago
wow...that is progress that takes 20 x 40t loads a week off the road (or do the timber guys work within weight limits these days

I thought they already received timber by train, not that I’ve been uphill on a train for a good few years and my only knowledge is from peering out the windowThank you Derrick this is great to see, the amount of wagons in and out of kronaspan is unreal. Regular walk for us along the canal at the rear, and I've often pondered how odd it is they don't use the rail links

What do they do with it all?Good to see. Kronospan own around 15000ha of forest at Eskdalemuir near Lockerbie. It’s all trucked to Carlisle then moved to Chirk by train.

Seen them or very similar on maintenance train up the Cambrian. We have an antenna for the signaling very close by, as matter of fact we had a generator in the yard for 18months powering it while they argued with Scottish Power over a connection!!!They are class 37s reclassified to 97 as they are ERTMS equipped. These locomotives have been refurbished from Class 37 locomotives at Barrow Hill Roundhouse by Network Rail and have been fitted with ERTMS signalling equipment. They are designed for use primarily on the Cambrian lines from Shrewsbury to Aberystwyth and Pwllheli, which requires an ERTMS-capable fleet. The locomotives were formerly 37100, 37170, 37178 and 37217 respectively.[3] A new inspection shed was built in 2008 at Coleham (Sutton Bridge Junction) in Shrewsbury for these locos.[4]

Quite a bit goes in by train already, as I was told we can't tip if they're unloading a train. Still a lot of chip and dust going in by road.
