Adblue consumption.

Please can anyone help with this little problem?
New NH T6.175 (145 HP and a boost in hard work) is our first tractor to need adblue.
I gather the fluid goes off after about 18 months maximum.
If we get a 210l barrel for about £90 and a £30 hand pump and a 2m delivery hose that seems a reasonable option compared with a smaller drum, a jug, and risks of spillage or contamination.
But how many engine hours would we get from the 210l? I know there will be a range so all I ask is what users find is typical for their application?
Our use will be about 150 hours, of which no more than 50 would be hard work on a baler and subsoiler. The rest is fairly light.
Any guidance gratefully received.

A 210 litre barrel of AdBlue lasted around 6 months in my 215hp JD sprayer tractor, so very roughly 500 hours of work. It was only when I had a new combine & harvest hire tractor, both also on AdBlue that I decided to move to 1000 litre IBCs. I'm on my second IBC since July 2018 and haven't used much since the end of harvest. I think sunlight causes the most harm so I have a tarpaulin over it.

Consumption varies hugely. On light work like spraying it doesn't use much but a few days of discing with it on its knees the consumption was much higher. I'd originally thought that light use would mean higher consumption per engine hour but the opposite is true. Hard work = higher combustion temperatures and more NOx to reduce with the AdBlue.

Fendt 718 using 0.1l/HR here and Merlo using it as well, but unfortunately we cannot risk the older generation from mistaking the 2 fluids so using 25l drums. Expensive but less risk of contamination and use a specific dish stored in a cupboard for AdBlue

Would seem there is quite wide variations.
MF 7718 has used a 210lt barrel in 330 hours.
Ive used most of a 200 lt drum in just over 200 hrs with a nh t7.190. Nearly all ploughing and drilling. Have filled my ford ranger from the drum too.

There’s a wide variation depending on how hard the engine is working, hence level of NoX the catalyser is trying to keep knock out.

Latest Final Tier 4 engines will use more AB their the previous T4i (Stage IIIB) engines due to tighter emissions limits and the fact that CNH in particular are purely only using AB to control NoX limits (with a soot catcher for particulates) whereas JD and Deutz are using a mixture of AB control and EGR to do the same thing so will use less AB than a CNH donk in Final T4 guise.

Simple eh :ROFLMAO:

We’ve got a t6.175 too, the first tractor here with adblue, it’s used about 1 tank of adblue to 3 tanks of diesel so far, That is all ploughing and power harrowing but not working very hard, 15–1600 revs. I’ve been surprised how little it uses. We’ve got a 210l barrel and hand pump in the diesel tank shed so no sunlight. We roughly do 4-500 hours a year but only had it since November so not sure how long the barrel will last yet

Thanks so much for all the guidance.
The adblue price is almost £1 per litre in the 20l drums but 40 odd pence in the 210l. Consumption difficult to predict and maybe the stated shelf life is pessimistic so I am going to buy the bigger drum and hand pump. My contractors can get some when they get diesel so that it will be consumed in 18 months or so.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
