Advantage feeders

That's what I used last year mixed with a high protein pellet(similar to lamb creep size) and will do the same this year but perhaps soya.
Flowed ok, just went round and raked around a bit with spanner, lambs did ok too.
Toying with splashing out on a couple more as it's certainly easier!

Is it something that could be fabricated yourself?

Yeah guess so hopper side of it would be doable just making something up to restrict the feed, sure there was similar style one on ebay.

I would need 6 so each pen had access which would put me off moving on to the system.

Could you not put them in the middle so each pen had access to half?

Not sure if its been mentioned on here before but i noticed there is a new 3 in 1 feeder out. Anyone got one? Same price as the half width one but can load with loader bucket.

Looks good except still no roof extension to keep driving rain out.

I've got a 900l plastic pallet box that I have put a fold out shute on the bottom.
A full mix is about 600kg and just fits in a 800 feeder
It fits under the bin as well which the loader bucket doesn't.

Putting either 60% creep pellets + 40% whole oats

Or
Whole oats made up to 18% with protein pellets.

For fat lambs


For ewes & ewe lambs this winter will almost certainly feed oats plus protein pellet

Have had mine on barley , slow on uptake heard oats better , more palatable?

havnt used it this year , we put oats through ours before , but completely sure they were all taking it , barley might flow better but need shutting down more , which in turn might put off shy feeders more , similar small proportion of wheat in it

Nobody grows oats round here so we have only used barley.

Our sheep must be greedy bu66ers - never had a problem getting them to take it.

Did when I first got a feeder, I did try it and had a couple ewes keel over, probably my fault in hindsight, but too scared to use barley since!

I think part of my prob with barley is that it had been treated for storage giving a slight smell
