Agribuggy or Spray Ranger????

Looking at sprayers @ Cereals yesterday with the original intention of looking at front/rear mounted units but got drawn into the idea of a 3yr old LPG sprayer.

Both the Agribuggy and Sprayer Ranger look like they will suit our system, has anyone got any user expereinces (and yes @Clive, i know you don't like the Agribuggy! ;) )

So far, i have got these conclusions:

Agribuggy:
Pro's:
  • Looks the part!
  • Nice cab
  • 160 hp
  • Pommier booms
Con's:
  • Sprung suspension
  • Looking at clip on Youtube, it looks like the boom sways a lot, is that a fair comment?
Spray Ranger:
Pro's:
  • Looks good boom stabiliy
  • Air suspension
Con's:
  • Unknown
  • Got looks that only a mother could love!
  • Sparse cab
  • Backup????
Also, has anyone got any prices? (I got a quote for an Agribuggy but ran out of time to get one from Alanco)

TIA WB

I have rebuilt a 2.8ltr Agribuggy 2500, only done 30 hrs in it so far but I have found the booms to be pretty good and stable to be honest, I looked at the Youtube clip and thought the same but in the field it`s proved to be fine.
Sprung suspension, love it, very nice and comfortable (esp when coming from something that had no suspension!!!) The only issue I see with it is the shackle bushes (I think these are a Land Rover product) the rubber just wears out, easy enough to change when you know how. I would prefer a bronze bush with greasing point myself but believe that Kellands are looking at using a different bush material (although don`t quote me on that, just chatted to one of the fitters about it and he mentioned it)
But on the road it`s fine, 50+kph on fats and more on row crops, fairly zooms about the place, decent brakes too.

Local spray man has just had an Agribuggy after running a Bateman for about 7 years. Says he loves it. Admits it was price alone that prompted the change and was a bit worried about it, but is very pleased.

I'm not putting down the Sprayranger, I just don't know anyone who has one. I really like the look of them for a first SP machine. Got talking to the maker at last years event and he seemed very knowledgeable and a decent chap. I know that's not criteria to spend money by, but it does no harm!

Are they really that much cheaper then? I thought most SP's were around the £100-120k mark (excluding the obvious massive machines!)

I might be wrong, but I'm sure it was the thick end of £15-20,000.

Sounds unlikely, but I'm sure that's what he said. Not suggesting for one moment that he was fluffing it up. He's a top bloke, 100% honourable. He didn't actually tell me the price, but just spoke about the difference.

Perfectly possible I guess - there's 20k difference in the price band I gave purely for that reason. Like a lot of things though, you tend to get better spec the more you pay.

Talked to Alanco at cereals today, he said £90k on farm. At 1.5ton lighter and £10k cheaper than the same spec househam spirit you have to wonder where they make the savings.

Jesus. £90k for that!!!! Where did they get that price from. It will be worth nothing after 5 yrs!

Spend the extra £20k on the Bateman and after 5 yrs its still worth at least £50k.

I just hope they are a LOT stronger than the old phantom was IME !

Great performance but woefully under engineered as payload and weight increased away from the original agri buggy concept which was fine

Neighbour has just got his 3rd sprayranger, he farms 1200 ac and likes them as they are good tp fix and easy to get parts. They seem to go well, very light footprint and no big tramlines to deal with after harvest. Sprayranger sold 4 new ones round here in last two years.

For some strange reason round here I don't know of one now, and they ate built only 20 odd miles away.

I still can't believe they are £90k! Surely not as its a basic 2500l sprayer.

Looks like its worth £60k and at that I'd have one as long as it had all the toys on it.

Years ago the phantom we had was about 50k when new Bateman was about 80k

Today a Bateman would be 160k ish so in relative terms the agri buggy has gone up in price by less

Still wouldn't have one though !

Bateman is no where near £160k even with all the toys on it.

We run a Bateman as our main sprayer but have newly refurbished and as yet unused Spray Ranger sat in the barn which replaced an old Spray Ranger. Old machine was at 12m which was then modified up to 20 and then 24m. It was, until not so long ago, the lead sprayer on the farm. To be honest at the end it was pretty unreliable and not at all popular with the operator. That said we were asking way too much from it given its original design for 12m and it was getting very old. It was sold on and there were no shortage of takers (could have sold it four times over) from people needing a lightweight machine to carry fert spreaders in the difficult conditions.

The new Spray Ranger is completely different machine being designed for 24m. Hydrostatic gearbox, much more powerful engine (old engine was the same as the Ford Escort van), better booms, variable rate, much better cab with air-con, radio etc. It was also about a third of the price of a new Bateman. It is also very light which, after last year, is vital for us as it will be relied upon to cope in wet ground conditions.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.
