All in one PCs

Some do, some don't. I do but for a whole lot of things I'd consider a Chromebook laptop or even desktop. They don't generally seem like value for money though, depending on what you compare with.

If you think Chromebook is for kids, have a look at this very highest end setup…

Very impressive devices. I have found to my surprise, I do most of my surfing/internet work on a Chromebook. Works a treat.

Unless you use very powerful graphics programs there is no contest. Go for the M1 new version. Not only is its performance meant to be between three and six times faster than the old Intel one, but its cheaper and runs cooler and more efficiently. Get a relatively cheap USB hub to increase the number of ports if you need them. Don't forget that you need to buy a keyboard and mouse or trackpad separately. The obvious choice there is the Apple Magic wireless keyboard and mouse.
Will the M1 still run native Windows?

Looking to replace our 2010 iMac 27" later this year.

Thanks.

Will it no longer dual boot into Windows using Boot Camp? Our iMac spends most of it's time that way...
Bootcamp is no longer available on M1 Apple computers. Parallels works even better, because you don't need to reboot to transition from one OS to the other.
If you don't use the Apple OS, why not get a cheaper Windows computer?

What are you thinking of? A Mac Mini with a large high spec monitor? They don't make a 27" iMac or larger currently.

BY the time I spec a windows PC up to a 27" iMac there isn't that much difference in price I find unless you can suggest a really good supplier.

I do boot into the MacOS from time to time to sync my ipad and access a few Mac apps. If parallels is now that good (I last used it regularly 8 years ago - several of my critical programs are Windows only) then an iMac would be good again. I do want to stick with the 27" screen though, preferably 2 of them. A Mac Mini could be the way to go then.

If you can wait a few months there will be a bigger iMac introduced.
I can't vouch for how well Parallels works on the new M1 Macs, because it was only announced a few weeks ago and may not be generally available in the wild yet for all I know.

I differ from you in that I do have Windows10 on my year old 27" iMac but hardly ever use it, preferring to use the Apple OS almost exclusively these days with many programs and/or important data either exclusively in The Cloud or backed up to it and synchronised across devices.
