Johnes blood testing today. 354 blood samples taken.

Blood or Milk samples in the future, That is the question? @bovine
When we did the johnes 30 cow challenge last summer we was told that the milk samples will only work if you are tb free as a cow that has been tb tested in the last 60 days will show as a high or medium result to the test, same if the cow has tb.

not necessarilly only if tb free , but the test should be as far away from tb test to be more accurate
assuming you are aware that johnes full name is Mycobacterium Avum Paratuberculosis or MAP for short

Be good to hear bovines opinion, my understanding is there's a high chance of false negatives with blood and therefore quarterly milk testing is necessary to build a picture. We've been doing it for a few years now but it's on of those things thats may come under the cost cutting axe

I thought it was rather a high chance of false postives with milk! :banghead:

Why do cows like calving in rubbish weather? 11 cows calved last night all out side on woodchip pad. It was blooming horrible at 4am this morning. Stopped raining now though. 117 calved so far and only on day 9.
If it calved here this morning outside, fair chance it would have blown into wadebridge! Not much rain, less than 8mm. But gusts @over 70mph

How many are you milking? Look good cows, are they just on a straw yard or do they have the option to lie in cubicles aswell?

Thank you. Just under 70 cows here. We have 30 old mushroom cubicles but some have broken off and left double spaces so around 24 cow spaces there and the rest loosehoused. It seems to work very well like that. All the bigger heifers are in cubicles from 6-9 month onwards.
