We have a ditch that needs cleaning to help field drainage. Are we allowed to do it this at this time of year? Is there a closed period?

No thread ever posted on TFF has ever demonstrated so graphically just how beaten up and confused by red tape and often nonsensical bureaucracy good farmers that know their job have become

Well said.

Nowadays government bodies want us to ask permission for doing almost everything….even though the law does not require that. If they can bully people enough they will obtain control by submission as this thread illustrates.

Government bodies have legal teams with infinitely deep pockets whereas individuals do not. 😞

It’s no. Wonder the country is flooding 40 years since the ditch s been cleaned out by any council little wonder the roads are over flowing in water it’s become so easy for the I have good a clue government and the do gooders to put everything down to global warming as for hedge cutting it was always in the back end we farmers would clean the ditch’s and cut the hedge we farmers always moaned but not like they do now

Two road side ditches here were once that deep a mini would have fitted inside, they are now so shallow they are barely below the road and in places where the council use an attachment on a hedge cutter to clear the gulleys that the water is meant to use are now level or above the road due to the dirt they move just forms a dam. Thinking of using the tree shear to refresh the hedge and dig the ditch from the field, bet they won't like that but my fields don't drain now
