Amarok steering issue

It’s a 69 plate version and at 6 months old the belt that’s runs around the front of the engine onto the steering shredded. A new one was done on warranty. Ran fine until a month after warranty ran out and the steering went heavy. Had it with a local mechanic who replaced the belt even though the belt looked ok, and checked all the pulleys etc. 12 weeks later it’s gone heavy again so 3rd belt went on and thoroughly checked over. No oil leaks etc and no lights on the dash.
Last week it’s done it again so this time we’ve put a new steering pump on and another new belt. Lasted an hour. It’s driveable but not right and went turning on occasions it goes loose like it should be so catches you out.
The earlier amaroks had a steering pipe issue but that was redesigned and corrected in 2018 and there’s no recalls outstanding on this one. Help.

Update. 3 x pumps, 3 x times belts (just because if your changing the pump we felt it necessary to change the belt at the same time), service exchange steering rack, fluid changes every time it’s touched and it’s still not right. This little lot was on top of the stuff already done in the opening post. It’s better than it was as it’s not right any more but st full lock it’s grinding as if it’s low on oil which it’s not as we’ve topped it up every time it’s been emptied as it takes a while to circulate the system and find all it’s positions.
I’ve then spoke to two further mechanics as well as VW and the consensus was get rid of it as sending it into Vw for a complete new steering system would be around £4000. Presently I’m at £800 as the multiple pumps and belts have been done under a 12 months parts warranty from the independent parts supplier my mechanic uses.
So vehicle has been sold into the trade and I showed them the issue at full lock. They weren’t bothered about it so it’s their problem now. I’ve taken a £3k hit on the auto trader prices for similar vehicles as you’d expect selling to the trade and having already spent £800 in nearly £4K down really. I’m very disappointed seeing the vehicle is only just 4 years old.

If it’s cost you £800 for pattern parts and you’re £3k down on trade in value v retail - wouldn’t it have been better to take it in to VW in the first place and for £4k let them fix the whole steering system?
You may have got some ‘goodwill’ too, from VW to lessen the £4k bill
Am I missing something?
You’re already down the £4k it would have cost to fix it, originally at VW................. and now you have no truck

Sorry forgot to add the important bit which was the service manager at VW said that there was no guarantees the £4000 repair would fix it and that they could not offer any come back on it. Also as it was outside of warranty there was no assistance with the repair. I questioned all this a bit and came to the conclusion VW are aware of an issue with the any Vw vehicle running the same steering issue and they were walking away from the issue. I also had spent the £800 prior to finding out Vw would be £4000 so that puts me at £4800 and might not fix the issue at which point I then take the £3000 hit to sell to the trade making me £7800 down. I decided to cut my losses.

Aha, thanks for the clarification
In that position, I would have got rid too
What have you replaced the truck with ?

If VW deem the only solution changing the whole steering system and can't narrow the issue down to one part of it it's a pretty poor show. If they are gonna change so many parts was the steering system for for purpose or safe from the beginning?

It’ll be the cv joint behind brake pedal it’s a problem with them. I had mine done last year. It’s a dash out job. Tried spraying with wd-40 didn’t work.

Hmm. Was considering a trade in recently and the dealer sat in my 2016 2l and screwed steering back and forward. Couldn't think why he spent so long checking it.
Anything preventive I can do?

Interesting
I have exactly the same issue on my 2018 Amarok. Going to the local indy tomorrow so it could be an expensive day.
Mine might be a different issue.
Fine when cold. The further you go the worse it gets until it becomes almost impossible to steer. Had a job to steer it at all to park it at the garage.

Does anyone know the fix for this. I have a 2019 v6 Amarok. The power steering failed just had a new power steering pump fitted and that hasn't worked. They then flushed the system and refilled it and still no luck?

There's no visible leaks anywhere. The fluid was on the minimum when it stopped working.

Mine’s a 4cylinder one but a friend has a v6 and had similar. He was told the problem comes with too much ‘full lock’ operation; ie when ‘certain’ drivers are driving your pride and joy in car parks and do dry-turns full lock to lock while getting more and more stressed because you’ve chosen a car that’s far too big….etc etc etc. Anyway; that teeth grinding clonk you get at the end of the rack travel causes damage. Specific to V6 ones apparently.

Since selling mine I have heard that the issue might be a u-joint but you have to remove the entire dash board to get at it.

Won’t be the pump it’s most likely to be the steering column itself that’s wrong there is like a cv joint above brake pedal I had same issue with my 2017 v6 tried a oiling it etc. only fix was dash out and new parts fitted not cheap. Also could be broken wires on steering rack.

It's finally getting repaired. VW are replacing the steering rack and pump again. As they are worried about contamination. I struggled to find the correct rack for a 2020 V6 amarok. The part number is V2H4422061BX or 2H4422061BX. VW currently don't do an exchange service for the rack anymore so there £1780 +vat from VW. Lllparts do a genuine one for £1334 +vat.
