All in there. The response to the consultation was posted in #522What about all the gee gees transported around to shows etc
So if they move forward with these proposals and stick to the head room allowance then I'd need say a 9 or 10ft high box behind the pickup? Anyone else see issues regarding road safety and trailer tilt if stock move? Ball joint and drawbar is a little different at 50mph than a 5th wheel. Also you'd need a longer ramp to get a shallow enough angle to top deck so that means more trailers with expensive power ramps.
Or just 20’ long single deck trailers?
For ruminants yesI thought I’d read that the lower temperature idea has been dropped and was not being pursued. Only the 30C upper limit is mentioned at length?
Be a squeeze through a 10ft gate off a narrow lane?
That’s the sort of thing Grandad comes out with!!But it wouldn’t be a 10’ gate the second time…
I suspect these regulations will be passed.
They will then not be enforced, unless the powers that be decide they want to "make an example" of you. Then watch out.
Livestock wagons have a 40 year physical and 20 year financial life thoughI think the headroom allowance is something which may apply to new trailers to begin with, with a timeline for it to be mandatory within 10 years on both new and old trailers. Be the most sensible and practical way forwards with as little economic damage to the wider livestock haulage industry.
.. and our Ifor cattle trailer is a late 1970's.Livestock wagons have a 40 year physical and 20 year financial life though

I would suggest that is completely impossible as economically you will have older wagons that will be able to carry 30 - 40% more stock and so the "new" vehicles will be completely uneconomic.
How much higher do folks think.a standard ifor trailer will.need to be?
We had some small sub 30 kg beltex stores on this morning and when I got the tape measure out they were 10 - 15cmm from deck. Need a fair bit extra for big ewes.
cranked axles with the wheels on the outside of the box, lower the floor heightI'd say a 7ft high box may be OK for lambs. But would easily need to be 9 or 10 ft for big ewes. Get a bit of tilt on a sharp bend doing over 30mph and it could be a mess.
