Fairly new to the sheep job so no expert. but for me the actual ‘exporting’ of an animal isn’t too much of an issue, it’s how the animal is treated and processed at its final destination, whether that’s abroad or 10 miles from home that is most important to me and I would imagine most people if asked. Can’t understand why the government don’t do something to stop non stun halal/kosher which is 10x more barbaric than anything else.

The problem seems to be that our tags have a UK prefix. I read somewhere that the EU are demanding that it should be a GB prefix, to exclude Northern Ireland.

Pedantic or what. Even more reason to object to cast ewes coming in from Ireland

Well we should object to British stock coming in here for killing in their thousands but it seems we wont have to as you have been led up the garden path by your politicians into this disastrous situation whereby you have cut off your largest trading partners. I really feel for your current situation and can't understand why the NFU isnt fighting for the sheep farmers. Why on earth would a farmer vote for Brexit? Its financial suicide surely

Maybe thats it. Can't make head nor tail of it myself
Neither can I really. But if the price difference over here is that much, and the standard of transportation is top notch I don’t have an issue with it. If something is worth money people tend not too abuse it... there are of course those that buck the trend but unfortunately beating someone with a 3x2 until they get the message isn’t cricket. 😉

Used to be retention periods end dates. U.K. may 16 Irish April 16 I think if I remember rightly. Irish ewes would come here for sale when the rest were held on retention. Dearer here too
Back too the good old days again!!

We used too send lambs too a dairy farm, he always let us leave 100 small hoggs there until late May. They came back as far a pigs and always sold well. After a few years we found out off his neighbour he was using our hoggs to fill his sheep quota until retention finished!! Crafty old bugger! 😂😂

We are always glad of somewhere too send the stragglers! Shear them at the end of March and send them down too the good grass. We asked him about it one day and he fully owned up too it. Think it was 2 more years then quotas finished and he went the same way as the rest of them. Sheep arrive mid November, leave 3rd week in Jan 😢
