50-60% of a nice bale is heavily dependent on what kind of row the baler swallows in the first place.

ideal width of row i found is 4'6" wide, no more no less, that leaves a very presentable bale with nice shoulders but with enough in the middle so there isnt a gap between the plastic and the grass which will give fermentation problems, indeed an ever so slightly barrel shape to a bale makes for good silage, your aim is to cut out the Air.

how many bales per year are you expecting/planning to make?

the answer to that will define whether you should be buying a baler, and don't forget, a baler is only part of the equation, there's a wrapper to be got as well, and if you don't have one a moco too, and if you want to get quality then a tedder and a rake as well, it dosent be long adding up and at the rate accountants depreciate machinery you just might be better off getting a Good contractor to do the baling and concentrate on the mower, tedder and rake yourself.
imo unless your chatting about 500+ bales per anum only then would i consider an outfit, that is unless you want to be keeping the tax down...

yes the 5 xxx series are the same as Kubota, just depend which country you are in as tohow its branded, the previous old tech was sold to Kuhn. the current range of balers are a totally different animal, very high out put baler there wont be many machines that can live with it from what ive seen .
