And for the record there’s loads of people around who I know will thrive, I’m just sick of reading these threads where people are juxtaposing themselves constantly. Forever complaining about the state of the industry and their business then instantly attacking and jumping on anyone who suggests anything even slightly off the current path.
how do know they will thrive. What do they do different.WE have cut costs to the bone.

Yes, you certainly do strike me as someone who gets wound up by this.....although I'm not sure why.
So, again Ollie, I'll ask what your stake in the game is?

for parity...
I run a large diverse business portfolio, primarily, but not wholly, based from an extensive tenanted hill farm.
I give gainful employment to a number of people - when in fact I could simply trouser the subs and slope off somewhere warmer.
Due to positions/offices held, and requests to help shape policy, I give the above some consideration - so I'm always grateful to engage in discussion...up to a point..

I have a passion for the industry at large and wish to see it flourish. It is obvious that the present system, nor the various iterations of the same have not worked, in fact, small farms have been disappearing for years. What is more, the environment has been affected unduly as well and the market for all these farm commodities has been borked into the ground as well.

Your own personal position is of no consequence to this issue and of zero interest to me either. As has been stated many times here, the money is decoupled for production so people who are continuing to use it to support production seem to have missed that memo.

I'm still waiting for my annual householder payment in the post, I too might choose to use it to buy a 4x4.

I think I should be inducted into the TFF hall of fame......

Most of my farming life I've not received subs,
I'm not a member of the NFU,
I grow cover crops
I've been " put right " by Cowabunga at least 250 times,
All I need now to complete my induction is to buy an manky old Moore direct drill to drag across the fields.:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

They moan about everything, from plateauing yields, to chemicals becoming resistant, to the weather, price of machinery. If you suggest trying practices to create a more resilient system with less capital employed you get abused. They then demand subsidies because they are noble and ‘feeding the world’.
the main problem in U.K. ag is farmers refusing to take ownership of any of the problems we face, blaming everyone but themselves.

Given the level of complaints generated virtually around the clock regarding the current circumstances, you would think more people would be calling for reform or change of some description.

Ah. So you're 'an interested onlooker?

I'm happy for you that you think the world is so simple.
It isn't of course Ollie, it's a vast interconnected hive, where it's not realistic to expect to be able to take unilateral decisions about something as fundamental as food production systems without ongoing external consequences.

I'm amused that my position is of no consequence to you, when I've admitted I'm being consulted -along with every man and his dog- about the future direction of travel of subs....which you seem so fixated on.
Is it that you're cross you aren't being consulted?

And, like Henarar, i'm curious as to who you think tarmacs the road you drive down to get to the shops, or who funds the stretcher monkeys..sorry, paramedics, who'll pick you up when you fall off your high horse?
