Another phone message scam.

Had an email a while back, saying the sender had worked in computers for years and had developed a system whereby they could use my webcam in reverse. Therefore they could see what I was doing in my home without me logging on .

They said they had hacked into the local show society secretary’s computer and got hold of all the details of all the society members. They didn’t mention the society, just the secretary’s email.

They then said they would send “video proof” taken by their reverse camera system of me watching porn on my computer and even (not to put too fine a point on it) “entertaining” women in my office. Happily for me, they would obscure my face the first time they sent the videos to everyone, but if I didnt pay they would send the full, uncut version.

Bugger. First I thought I would now only be able to watch porn on my phone and entertain all my other women out in the shed. :joyful:;)

The amounts demanded to stop this happening varied from a few hundred up to several thousand dollars.

What they didn’t bank on was that I don’t have a webcam on my computer.

That’s quite an elaborate and detailed story of what they’ve allegedly seen you get up to in front of your computer, there can’t be many who would fulfill all the criteria to fall for that scam.

I note you don’t deny any of it, just the fact that you haven’t got a webcam so they couldn’t have seen it, sounds like you were lucky there !???

It was a very long email.

I dare say millions have a webcam and I dare say many thousands watch porn at home. There may be quite a few that have extra marital relations in view of their webcam, I don’t know.

Needless to say, I didn’t pay and, to my knowledge, nobody was sent anything.

I do wonder what all the sniggering is about though. ;)

If that’s the nearest you can get to a denial you’d make a good politician.?

There’s also a saying, many a true word said in jest and judging by the election campaigning that wouldn’t be difficult.

I had one not long ago ,,Your Argos card has exceeded its credit limit ,please call !!!!!!.
I haven't got an argos card and never have had one
In those situations I always phone the company concerned (Argos in yours) to check that nobody has set up an account in my name which might leave me fighting to prove that it's not my dept.

Yeh.. Just Ignore them. Amazon accounts been billed for x amount is the latest.

Then the parcel waiting one.. BT going to cut me off. HMRC has a warrant out for me.. I owe VAT.... I'm owed Tax.. I can have a new boiler if I'm lazy. Surveys about my Energy usage.

List is endless

I had the same email, saying that they would send footage of me watching porn to all my contacts. All they would have seen was this:

I did have a response from my assistant secretary at the Archaeological Society saying that she had received a graphic photo of my private parts, but that turned out to be a false alarm as it was one I had sent her myself.

"£600 has been paid out of your account by card payment to a foreign country.Press 1 to ............." Has anyone else had one of these?
Hi, Over the last 18 months i've had 3 e-mails stating that i've downloaded a RAT software,
RAT = Remote Access Trojan. They informed that they had been able to switch on the webcam
on my computer and filmed me watching porn, they also gave me a password which they stated
i had used. Luckily - i keep a record of all the passwords i've used over the 20 years i've been
online, but i had only used this password for 3 websites, about 17 years ago.
A bit more research
and i found out that if you type the sentence "have i been pwned" into the Google search engine,
it will take you to website, where you can type in your e-mail address, all of them, one at a time,
and the search will uncover wether your e-mail address has been hacked from a website. There
is also a password search engine, where by typing in the password you suspect has been hacked,
you can find out if this is so.
I do have a good anti-virus software, which is automatically updated
on my computer, and the scans i did showed nothing for me to worry about.
Finally, 2-3 times
a year, in order to check my online security, i Google a website called "Shields Up", and on
the website they enable you to check the portals on your computer. According to the results
of the test they do - my computer refuses to respond to any attempts by their software, they
state that my computer is in full stealth mode when online.
I am interested in being fully secure on-line,
so if anybody here knows anything about doing a better job, i would like to know, for
the benefit of everyone on TFF.

Well, for starters, don't go entering your email addresses or passwords into web sites you find in a Google search (y)

Still get the odd call from those nice folks at Microsoft which is strange as it’s fairly out of date. Maybe targeting the older folks..
