So after some surgery prevented me from starting my engines for a while, I build the drill powered pullstarter
See it in action at

or visit my web site at https://www.pullstarters.com

Sorry if this seem like a small advert - I'm a start-up with zero marketing budget and even if you don't want one , I would appreciate feedback on the tool.

It does work but seems a bit fiddly, it,s quicker to just pull it yourself, imagine in a tree cutting job putting the saw down, 2 minutes later you want to start it back up, you have to search for the auto puller, when its quicker to just give it a pull. Get yourself on Dragons den.

But you're missing the point........
It's not about being quicker,it's about being unable to pull the rope yourself to start the machine. It might be a faff having to use the puller but if it means getting a machine started ,I think it's a grand idea........

Liked the idea, and thought it might suit Mrs HM for starting the lawnmower, especially at the start of the season. Could see it being of use for my suitcase generator too - it's only ever called into service rarely and always has stale petrol.

Didn't like the price - neither the website being in dollars, nor the actual number which is about 4x what I expected. Had to search around to get where you were based.

Get the manufacturing costs down to an affordable level and then stick it onto something like Ebay UK or Amazon marketplace.

Seems quite a good idea to me, yes it may be slower / trickier than pulling the cord, but there are people that can’t do that for various reasons, such as old age / arthritis /surgery etc.

Great idea, but a little confusing:rolleyes:...

if someone doesn't have the physical ability to pull the start rope, how are the meant to control a chainsaw, mower etc once started?

Lots of people can walk behind a self propelled lawn mower but can’t start it easily. As for chainsaws, plenty of sawbenches that hold the chainsaw. Can easily use them but may lack the strength to start them. Then you have static generators, water pumps etc. Leaf blowers can be one handed etc.

I found that with my older equipment, they were more difficult to get started when cold, but when I had used them for a while and the engines were warm, they were OK to manually start (Unless I did something like flooded them). Thanks for commenting.

Yep - I apologise for the price - its primarily made from machined aluminum (not mass manufactured). Mass manufacturing would substantially reduce the cost - unfortunately tooling for this is beyond my means at present. Thanks for the comment.

Great idea. I have commented on Youtube. I don't know whether it is just my ears but even with the video and computer audio turned up to max it was difficult to hear the commentary.

I'd have liked one of these when the chain saw/quad/lawn mover fails to start and I am attempting to diagnose the problem! Target the old, disabled, and repair shops. And do go on Dragons Den when you have some figures to show them.

Understood, but it will be the downfall of you. Can you get a mechanical designer to take the idea and develop it into one that's assembled from mass available profiles etc? You need to get the price down, I'm afraid, and also get the design protected / patented from someone else copying it. If not someone else will do the investment part with a mass manufacturer and you'll be stuffed.

Looks like a great idea about 5 years too late. Battery tech is making pull starting a thing of the past. I love my battery chain saw and my husband loves it more.

If the engine takes a lot of pulling to start it, I take the pull start off ,and put a socket straight on the crank and start it with a cordless. Just got to remember which way the engine rotates.

just mind you don‘t let the magic smoke escape from the drill windings.

IMO, if your not in a fit state to start the engine by pulling a cord, your not in a fit state to use it.
