Hi all,

Has anyone known of any issues with sales from JR Firby at Slingsby?
Bought a David Brown from him which when i tried it, seemed to be in good working order with everything working and he told me that everything worked as it should even the PTO (which i specifically asked about). Got it home and put it to work and can't engage the PTO (the clutch plate seems stuck) and the selectomatic lever has come off in my hands. I've never seen a leaver just come off either so it must have been going for some time.

He was reluctant to reply to my phone calls for some time and when he did, he didn't seem interested in sorting it until i reminded him that he told me that everything worked as it should, and that given the price I've paid for it, it is now parked up and of no use.

He's supposed to be calling round to look at it at some point, so hopefully he'll follow through on that.
How long is 'sometime' ? Did he not get back to you for a week or was it later that day?

I've just re read your initial post.
You reported the problem and he said he'd call round and look.
So assuming he does call in then he's got no case to answer and you've got no complaint.
If he doesn't then that's the time to potentially start a thread

id be surprised if he calls after this thread has been posted. might have been an expensive internet post.

I`m pretty certain this was a pretty tidy tractor (if I remember correctly!!) . If you wanted 4 of `em you`d likely need nearer (if not over!) £30k... :)
Well if that’s so they might have a genuine valid reason for not prompt attention, re anyone heard of Covid!!!!🤷‍♂️

£7500😮😮 isn't that about 10xs new price
Maybe so but if you had one would you let it go for £750 if folk wanted to force £7.5 k in to your hand .? You couldn`t buy a new simple to operate/fix tractor for £750 today (or 20 x that even!) :ROFLMAO:. Those 885 3 cylinder machines would do a day`s hay-bobbing on a very small amount of diesel ( a big modern machine would drink it in an hour!) :)

Tough one. Only had one similar experience which ended a lot better with a different dealer; bought a fyson elevator after seeing it and assured it worked fine; got it home and there was an issue with the slew I think; dealer said get it sorted by whoever you like and send him the bill. I did; he paid; perfect. Will defo go back. In my mind that’s the way it should have gone without ending up on here.

My problem with these types of thread. They are very one sided while naming and shaming a dealer who will always be on the back foot if they reply.

why not post your real name, what you paid for the tractor. What the dealer offered to do rather than all this hidden crap!
I’ve put exactly what happened. I was only asking if anyone else had had any issues.
