Finished last 30 ac of first cut hay Monday.
Started to spit with rain as I was finishing, but managed to get it loaded before it started chucking it down.
Just second cut rye grass to battle with.
It's been a bit a challenge this year with the rather unpredictable weather.
I feel for anyone still struggling to make hay.

Anyone going for some late August hay in this promised heatwave?

Yes, be making into September for sure. All our wild flower meadow customers to go yet. Got about 40ac on the floor in what feels like 70 different fields atm. Can't give it away this year, some will just be dumped to rot. Might try and do some nice 2nd cut haylage next month.

9 acres of permanent pasture to cut for silage round the borders and hay the rest if possible - ground is saturated.
Rain today forecast then 4 dry days before the rain starts again on Tuesday 27th.

What heatwave?

Air show's next week isnt it ? hope so or my mrs is going to be mad at me
Good job you posted that! I was getting ready for this weekend for some reason. I think it is because it was always on the same weekend as the steam fair in previous years. The air show looks a bit more interesting this year with more vintage stuff so I might go and see it properly for once. :)

best rent a boat and come in by sea, the crowds are usually huge, we are going down to our flat, I aim to arrive in the middle of the night to avoid the queues on the A338

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
