i went the whole hog 7 years ago.when changing tractor had autosteer ready and bought rtk trimble . thinking that if you are going to do it ,do it. never looked back. i do 1500 acres of maize drilling, 5-600 acres of combi drilling, lots of stubble cultivations, rolling ,fertilizer spreading, grass raking, in fact anything that i can use autosteer on and it has transformed my life and attitude to working. no more stopping to pour out a cup of tea , eat meals on the go. i get far more done in a day. no i havnt sat down and worked cost per acre just having less stress during the day which means what price do you put on that? i still have markers on machines so i can go old school if signal is lost . i use it as a tool to help my work, idont always do straight lines as icant see what difference having a slight curve in tramlines just means all short work is at one side of the field instead of short bits either side. it cost me 9k 7years ago with yearly signal subs best investment i made

Auto steer is very good but if it's a paid man doing somthing less taxing ie rolling or cultivating it tends to cause more expensive problems there minds drift and phones come out and then we have telegraph poles not quite in the same place or driven through the pond again!

Great for good men who pay attention and keep eye on the ball all the time

Because the man who pays the bills would never do anything wrong 🙄

I just do repairs just tend to find paid men or seasonal staff the worst for being on phones when using gps there dosnt tend to be a lot of fine tuning going on

Dont get me wrong bloody good bits of kit but when you see them going up the field with phone in both hands dose make you want to take dome off the roof!

Was that pic of the valtra having a dip enough to persuade you off the idea @Lowland1
I’ve seen all the pictures of Xerions in pylons and The Australian on his quadtrac balancing spoons on his nose whilst drilling. No one can put a cost benefit per acre on it but it probably is what I need for our system. It’s a bit like a cab on a tractor you really don’t need it but once you’ve had one you wouldn’t want to be without.

Completely invaluable tool here. No tramlines anywhere around here. Impossible to spray without gps. I went rtk years ago as there can be a lot of gps drift in a 500 ha field.
Alamo at 7000 hours on current tractor and at a guess 6000 of them I was using autosteer and haven’t had to replace any track rod ends yet. Maybe that will happen tomorrow.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
