Can anyone categorically tell us a date when Autumn in their eyes, begins.
If a pig slurry store is nearly full now, what are you supposed to do, as by the spring it’ll be overflowing .

I don't think 'autumn' has anything to do with it - it's based on the needs of the crop. If there is no crop or no rb209 need, then it doesn't matter what time of the year it is.

I would say any time from the harvesting of the previous crop would count as autumn application, as there would be no crop need.
One thing that has been cleared up is cover crops don't count as a crop in terms of nutrition need, it has to be a commercial crop.

So grass or turnips grown for sheep is ok, as it’s a commercial crop

Perhaps I'm think, but I found the FACTS email to be no better or any more informative than the one from the EA.

I really hope someone comes out with a easy to read breakdown of what we can or can't actually do. At the minute it all seems very contradictory.

In a separate note, I've spoke to several farmers over the last couple of days and they all looked at me as if I had two heads other than us few forum folk very few in the farming community seem to know anything about it, most just say "what, you mean NVZs....we've been doing those for years"

On your second point, go through their 'alternative' steps, dismiss them as impossible, then spread under the rps, using enough area to demonstrate that <5kg N/Ha will leach.

I think you’re righto on that point. Spoke to a few neighbours including a pig farmer, who were unaware and unconcerned about it. Think it’ll be ok this autumn

Someone has posted it to the national Free Range Eggs Telegram group and noone has even responded, I don't think anyone quite understands it, busy time of year and who has time to plough through the detail?

Normally when the football season starts, which is this weekend, and I go to watch Shrewsbury. There’s a distinct smell of chicken muck in the area. Sickly smell which turns everyone’s nose up. It’ll be interesting to see if it’s the same this year.

If a cover crop is also a catch crop intended for grazing is that ok or not? RB209 has recs for N and P on stubble turnips, forage rape and kale, so presumably they are ok if intended to be grazed.

When is a cover crop not a cover crop....

When it has a specified purpose. If it replaces an input you would otherwise buy, surely by default it is a cash crop.
But does in "need" additional N or P in the autumn? and can you demonstrate that to an inspector?
