Hi all,

We're looking for some available farms throughout the UK to host some demonstrations for our Soil-Max drainage plough. I'm wondering if anyone would be available to help us host in 2-3 months from now. Below is a video of the last demonstration we held just outside of Duxford.

You wouldn't pull a trench-less drainer drainer in our clay even in softer times with a wheeled tractor, it would need a tracked machine or like a D8 on the front, we often struggled moleing with a 7, we once were moleing believe in 83 and machinery rep just happened to visit, he said couldn't believe what he was seeing the old girl just would lift up at the front so the back sprocket and rear idler would start taking all the weight, that then reduces amount of track to grip, by slacking the tracks a small bit so they hung down this helped as long it didn't brake free if it did was stuck, normally blades done about 10 acres but just those few acres only managed 3 acres. One trench-less drainer was a bit different and they used to stone as well it was self propelled on the road but used a winch, it worked very well also as long as there was good ground to get the anchorage in it could work across waterlogged undulating ground that you couldn't walk across. have pulled a bit of plastic drain pipe in without a trench just short distances, 4 inch expander with 4 inch pipe drilled full of holes welded to it, about six inches of wood up a 3 inch plastic push up pipe and nailed through, mostly got 20 yards and the odd 50 but best done in short runs as broke, done some cable and water pipe laying 30'' inches deep and half mile in twenty minutes,

I thought some of these plows had gravel hoppers
You can get them with a gravel hopper. Here's one of the ZD1200s with a gravel box and pipe reel.

It does work, not as well or as worthwhile, but it does do a job.
Tbh if you take the stone out of the cost you could put the drains a lot closer
This is the method that is done all across North America. Our customers in the UK have successfully been using the same method. Soil type will most certainly play a role in spacing and depth.

In the clay here you need the stone to take the water down to the drain otherwise how is the water supposed to percolate through solid clay from the mole to the drain?
If you dry the ground out from below the water will go down through the subsoil not as fast as gravel backfill but it will work in most instances 🤞 I have actually seen water pushed up to the surface by a drain jetter going up a drain (no gravel) quite a strange sight seeing the muddy water lying on the surface

Yes but uk ain’t North America! We have massively different climate, soil and cultivations culture. Surely all those points are relative to giving correct drainage advice rather than a machine? I’m Suffolk heavy clay that machine you posted with that tractor simply would not move . I believe @bannabar offered his land? If so I’d speak to him as his land and a life time of experience really will help you to trailor and sell more machine to uk conditions

Yes, that is a great idea. It most certainly is not. I didn't mean to offend or come off as ignorant about the differences in farming between UK and NA because there are major differences. I was commenting that the method he mentioned was commonly used in NA and our customers in the UK are doing the same. They were doing the same before purchasing this equipment and continued to do so after purchasing this equipment.

If we didn't offer a gravel box, I don't think we'd do very well in the UK or Europe in general.

I appreciate your input and feedback, there can never be enough of it.

I think it’s a job for a crawler. Even if that tractor could move it it’s not a job you can just pull out a bit if it starts getting hard you need to be well on top of it
