Bailey Trailer

Looking at a nearly new Bailey 12T grain trailer and just about had it bought until I noticed it did not have a sprung drawbar, now in 2 minds weather to go ahead with the purchase.
What does TFF think I should do

We have 5 with sprung and one without ,the
one without has done the most work by far .
On that size trailer bought sensibly and driven with
respect shouldn't be a problem.

I would regret not having a sprung drawbar if it was me, I guess it depends on who is going to be pulling it.

That’s what I’m thinking, will I be regretting it for the next 20 years

I have one with one without and couldn’t tell difference , but I do use fastracs so ….. but I don’t thjnk they do bugger all imo , just bought a secondhand twenty ton dump trailer and it ain’t got one .

I think if your tractors have front suspension a sprung drawbar is less of an issue.

Front suspension tends to remove nodding.

Having an older Mars ton bale trailer without and a newer Bailey with for me the difference is night and day, same for corn trailers that I have had, not so bad empty but loaded is most unpleasant. However that is just my personal opinion.

Fastrac has rear suspension though conventional tractor sprung drawbar is you're rear suspension. Depends how much use it's gonna get and how bumpy you're roads/tracks are. I must admit baileys sprung drawbar (and others using big leaf spring in the same way) is very good as they don't suffer the bottoming out which other kinds do when they get older.

We've got some sprung some not and the biggest difference is if the tractor has suspension or not

Depends on the tractor on the front. If its a small light tractor you will notice the benefit of a sprung drawbar more that if you have a heavier lump pulling it

Buy the trailer & if you don't like it. Sell it & get one with sprung drawbar?

Sprung drawbar on a bailey is about £1200 i think if that makes any difference

I bought a slurry tanker and asked for no spring drawbar as it was £1200 more , it came with one anyway , saved myself £1200

Personally at that size and up I wouldn't have one without sprung drawbar

You haven’t fallen out with your money and it will always buy you a trailer when you look at the classified etc plenty about for that sort of money with a sprung d/b. Get the spec you want it will stand you in good stead in the long run. Rather than be one of those if only purchases
