Bamford Mid Mounted finger mower

We have a bamford mid mounted finger mower on a 1950 Nuffield Universal 4 TVO run. The tractor is in a bad state and needs a lot of work. Still has the extendable wheel axle on it, (most were cut off as they took off gate posts!!!!) We have the log book however as owned since late 50's, but the mower is in a good condition. Mower has 2 pullys to vary speed. Does anyone know how much this is worth? Either the mower, or the tractor, or both together? Someone local to us interested in it but neither of us know it's worth. Think the mower is quite rare as most mowers were trailed.

Used one in the sixties prior to rotory mower era. Took hours to bolt to tractor. underslung shaft on left of tractor took drive from pto. Connecting rod under tractor drove the knife. Bed was bolted to right hand side and lifted by a big lever (and a strong man). Ours was painted red and was also on a Nuffield. I often wondered if they were fitted to other tractors as the Nuffield chassis provided an ideal place to mount it.

When I was a lad, my Dad had a mid mounted mower on a Fordson Major. I'm pretty certain that it was a Bamford too.As I remember, it seemed to stay on the tractor all the time. He just used to take the swathboard off it after haytime. Apart from the obvious difficulty of
attaching these mowers, they were a revelation compared to the trailed ones that were land wheel driven , that were their predecessors. Especially the forward facing in-work position.

Ours was on a Major as well. It went with the tractor in the end. It reduced the ground clearance something rotten.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.
