hi
i am new to the forum. Although i am a mere townie with nothing but a london based allotment, i do dream of owning a farm or small holding sometime in the future.

i wondered where i can lay my hands on some spring barley ? for the patch I have i think only 1 kilogram is enough. I suspect thatmost of the seed suppliers wouldlaugh at such a piddly amount. the health food shops sell itbutnot sure ifthis is growable.

my plan is to try to brew beer from "first principles" ah.before youcomment about itbeing difficult. stupid. misguided, letmetell you I am from.Derbyshire where we are stubborn and determined people. (derby born derby bred strong in the arm, weak in the head :)

regards
Graham

I suspect if you asked one of the seed suppliers you would be surprised how happy they would be to help.

Failing that, all grain merchants go to farms and sample grain to let us know what sort of quality it is. They take 1 or 2kg samples of each crop and assess them. They then store the samples for a period of time then destroy them. If you have a merchant nearby, or contact one, I suspect they could supply you with what you need for the cost of postage etc. Waste not, want not etc.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
