Barn conversion heating system options

Trying to work out which heating/hot water system to go for in a holiday accommodation barn conversion.

Its quite a small building and will be heavily insulated, so hopefully heating demand won’t be huge. Likely to be only 2 guests at a time so hot water shouldn’t be big either.

I’m leaning towards an external oil combi but the electric and lpg systems have their merits, no experience of either though. Would be great to hear opinions 👍🏻

Go for for a standard gas combi boiler, some come with a 10 year warranty, they are easily fitted, repaired and exchanged by most gas engineers , importantly parts will still be available in 15 years time.

You could go for something fancy, but the savings on energy are soon wiped out when you need a specialist to repair at £80+ an hour and parts aren't available for a week as they need to be shipped in, meaning you lose rental income.

If well insulated a ground/air source heat pump might suit. Will obviously use more electric, but one less dealing with a utility company, gas, must be a plus! If you can get a few solar panels on it to help run the pump then all well and good.
In the end you want something reliable that you know will work, eg gas/oil/electric.
Biomass creates work, loading, ash, unblocking (occasionally). If you are around great. If not then bear it in mind. Too late I think for RHI
.

Every cottage we ever holiday at has it all included - it’s much cleaner financially.

A lot of this is down to marketing though, depends on your type of property etc.

Gas needs annual certificates, oil annual servicing. Both can break down. Electric based, ASHP for example may be another option.

A lot depends on resources available, occupation levels and heat demand.
