I was wondering if anyone could give a precis of the BASE AGM. I think I have a fairly good idea what @dontknowanything and @Clive might have said (unless any surprises were thrown in). What about the Swiss no-till chap, and the Wheatsheaf farming chap? Any interesting lessons / take home messages?

I'm watching the Kris Nichols talk at the moment. I like her point about the speed of soil formation. 1000 years to build an inch of topsoil, but that's from the bottom up, whereas regen ag is trying to build soil from the top down.

Also, thanks to whoever filmed it.

To be a BASE member you need that quixotic and stand-out-from-the-crowd mentality that is quite at odds with the philosophy of Schoffel gilet accoutrement.

I'm up to part of her talk about wheat breeding and the declining association with AMF. I wonder whether, assuming conventional wheat breeding carries on in the same vein, as you increase soil health you slowly pull away from varieties on the recommended list and switch to organic varieties / other crop types which will utilise the fungal networks.

To any of those well travelled (Nuffield) people, did you encounter farmer organisations within c/regen ag around the world who were undertaking their own plant breeding to encourage varieties that were not just 'weak and stupid'?

It was mentioned more than once that the colour of the drill was not important, as most are capable of putting seed in the ground and suit a variety of conditions.
However I did notice that whether notilling in the UK or Switzerland, only Fendt tractors are suitable .

interesting that the survey showed 7 Base members are CS users - I suggested we had a special roped off VIP area at meetings and better selection of sandwiches for them
