Or might just try oat husk and lime, dusty but cheap, not much absorbancy though, but doesnt hurt bank balance as much! Im not too much of a fan of flipping willy nilly bedding, dont think it helps the cows somehow.

We are on oat husks. Excellent for the job but as you say birds love it as do rats. I hate rats and about three times a week one would run within six feet of me.

whats dust like many issues ? i find sometimes if you get something dusty its good and you have to just take the dust because of product quality

Worst part is the loadall which we have an ag dispenser is constantly covered in a thick layer of dust. Actually worse when it's wet because it's like mixing flour with water =glue. It is a very good product but the vermin and dust were too much for me.

Chopped straw is a widely-used bedding material for dairy cow cubicle housing in the UK, and when clean, dry, well-stored straw is used and managed correctly it can provide a comfortable environment for cattle bedding

I've got my first load of envirobed mixed with fine sawdust and I'm impressed! Comes out the Ag dispenser nicely and I think there right when they say it does go further. I'm hoping by time I need another load they have mixed lime in with it as well.

Thats good, i took another load sawdust and seem to be getting on ok with it at the moment still having some problems though. i did take a sample of the mixed stuff that has been mentioned previously. What price is it currently at? wonder if it goes further then might be cheaper for me

We use green bedding and it is a nightmare. Terrible for cows feet, pain in the rear end to handle and causes endless mastitis issues but my boss won't change to anything else because he knows everything. You can't go wrong with sawdust and lime in my opinion

That's interesting as our vets are really pushing it

One of the draw backs of green bedding is that it can't be stocked piled for later use, it has to be used straight away otherwise it heats up and becomes a mastitis haven. Our cell count has become ridiculously low but too low since using green bedding ...e-Coli mastitis territory..

How does it affect the feet ?

It builds up between the claws and goes rock hard in warm weather. I footbath 5 a week to try and keep on top of it. For one reason and another it sticks to the cows feet like glue

what was this price for ?
So your cell count has gone dangerously low, but you don't like green bedding due to more mastitis?

Sand bakes on cows feet in the winter as wel.
yes that is correct, it can be quite labour intensive at times especially if your cows are in 365 days a year, on slats and on automatic cable scrapers. You have to shovel what hasn't gone down the slats at the end of the shed because you can't get the scraper in because of the cables......heavy going

th
Dumpy bag of dried paper waste
would rather take bulk personally. we used to take bagged sawdust but convinced dad to take loose. Still not decided what to do for this winter. We had sample of 2 paper beddings but dads very much stuck to sawdust but like my original post i am finding problems and with him taking more of a step back hopefully maybe just maybe i might be able to make my own decision. :D
