Cull price never been so good for a long time, not sure when the next festival is but it’s certainly a good price atm if there skin and bone welsh types your never gonna make much but for good size ewes there into hundreds

one thing i will add is , look back at prices in 2018 , last spring we had the b word and everyone was nervous , prices across the board were down , untill certainty (for at least a year) in the election happened , lamb was trading at £120 ish for 40kg u3l nearly all summer in france . Exchange rates are not quite as good as they have been but can quite see 2018 again at least for a while , Then prices for lamb / ewes might tank from august on untill some sort of deal is done , Then there is the china effect maybe good maybe non existent though aus numbers are going to be very short to supply northern china muslims

I think you're spot on. Sadly that means reduced demand right when I'll have a heap of lambs ready!

Beef trade seems to have stagnated atm and the slight rise after christmas saw more prime and culls come out the woodwork than firms expected. Good news is that the store cattle buyers are buying like the fats jumped 30p+ ! Store cattle and weanling numbers do seem down with a fair few farmers moaning they cannot find cattle and forcasting a flying spring trade

Lambs were a good trade today but ewes were back a bit, had a reasonable trade though. Scanned empty £85 for mules, £58 for Cheviots and £49 for some old Herdwicks

I would take farmers forecasting a flying trade with a pinch of salt. We might have an opinion but we won't have a say.

Stop the press....

Exeter prime market 20/01/20.

Cull ewe trade stormed ahead to average an outstanding £88 head ! yes £88 head including small hill/ very plain ewes etc etc ( up an impressive £12.72 head on the week..

But not to be outdone the Hoggs averaged an impressive £2.15pk across the board ( up 10pk on the week )

But the highlight of the sale was of course the first Spring lambs of the 2020 season which sold to a top of £2.31pk and averaged an impressive £2.26pk.
