Beef / Lamb & Pig Price Tracker

If you really think you can lock down an entire country leaving people with no money + shutting down all the company's and their suppliers down that supply vital inputs to the food sector and it doesn't reduce food supply a few weeks later you live in cloud cuckoo land.

UK will be in the same boat in 6/7 weeks time I can assure you if we carry on with this farce of a lockdown and don't get the country back working as already no end of direct and indirect suppliers to the AG industry are shutting up shop, parts for some machines you cannot get already and if we and other country's carry on with these full on lockdowns for long that will get much worse in 4/5 weeks, some tractor makers are already saying that once the parts they have in the UK are used up that will be it and at best they reckon they have 2 months of supply of parts.

And how are people locked in their homes with no income and no help from the state for at least 3+ months let alone the ones that will get no help at all from the government supposed to buy food??
I couldn’t agree more!
Been for parts oil etc today things I think I might need. Everywhere is almost shut. Stand outside job. I nearly left some gear to be collected or delivered on Monday but was told if government makes a move over the weekend then that will be the end so sent the mrs.
The latest crack is they are weighing up the financial pain against the benefits of all this.

Sorry a little off topic what stands on the Invicta Lamb abattoir site now? Remember them well, even purchased a few items at the auction when it closed still have one of their scales in one of our boning halls.

It is of course all houses.
Sadly the family were left with very little and John Marshall committed suicide but he was terminally ill.

The chance of ever building another abattoir in the South East would be impossible, the planners wouldn't have it and the locals would all be NIMBY's.
The irony is that Europe is closer than most of the abattoirs we have left which are either Farmers Fresh or Yetminster!

What was trade like?

Store cattle, about 700 penned, started off one hell of a trade, up £50 head + on the last few weeks, by the end of the sale it was back to last weeks level but all stock looked exceptionally well sold given the drama of the last week.

Stirks, about 300 penned, 2nd grade stuff back a shade maybe but the well bred/ farmed cattle as per usual were a solid trade and these cattle were making as much as the last few weeks, one 9 month old suckler bred heifer made £905 I think and a superb pen of suckler bred char steers 10 months old made about £860 which certainly was on a par with the last few weeks.

The most serious and sombre livestock market I have ever attended it has to be said.

I didn't have any orders for calves so did not go into this ring but I did pick up some sheets for 2 people that sold calves today and asked me to ring them to let them know what they made and they were very pleased with their trade today, reckoned like for like calves were up £30/40 for native steers and as much as double for native heifers compared to the last 2/3 weeks.

Thank you, It was a great loss to the meat trade was an extremely busy spot, well placed for the export market.

Well watch this space!! It has just been taken over again but it is doubtful anyone will supply it as the record over the last few years has been appalling with many farmers being left seriously out of pocket.

I wouldn't want to appear racist but the people who have tried to make it work over the last few years have all been of a certain type and "intentionally" forget to pay the suppliers. One nice chap who was sucked in by them has had to sell part of his farm in an attempt to clear some of the debts he was left with.
Unfortunately the latest owners while seemingly more genuine are of a similar ilk!

When you say serious how do you mean exactly? Do you buy much stock for people?

Some AG engineers are expecting to be shut down next week.
If they go for a tighter lockdown than we have already they are saying delivery drivers for AG parts and parts managers will not be classed as Key workers so wouldn't be allowed to work, anyone with any common sense can see what will happen.

The goverement and police have gone power crazy, until people have no money or food which will happen very soon and refuse to comply they will just shut down more and more of the UK.

I have never seen the M5 as quiet as today, no cars on it, odd british lorry but no end of overseas lorry's on the road and several parked up in the lorry park so whilst we are under lockdown anyone from overseas can come in and go where they like!

Just everyone very concerned about what is going to happen, none of the usual banter like you normal see every week.

Yea I buy for other people at times but at the moment its all for people that i don't normally buy for but have asked met to buy for then as they are either on the at risk list or self isolating so I certainly don't want anything from them for buying them stock at what is a very difficult time for everyone.

Can you stick with market reports and stay off public service advice. You make this sh1te up day in day out. The UK is not on lockdown in the way you claim, British tucks can cross the channel in the same way as any other European trucks. Btw a regular Sedge vendor is in intensive care tonight, aged 60 and fit but fell ill after attending Cheltenham races, bare that in mind when you mock the impact of the virus and the attempts to bring it under control.

Its not shite its what they are telling everyone ( and yes I hope they are wrong )

And the UK is certainly under lockdown, to claim anything else is a nonsense!

You cannot even visit your girl friend/ fiancé or even put cheques in the bank so if things like that are not controlling what you can/cannot do then words fail me and no goverement in 1000 years has banned people from seeing people they are dating/ going to bank/ seeing family/ going 10 miles for a walk etc until now.

Put 3 cheques in the bank this week no problem.

What's the issue with banking?

Don't ask me but instead ask Cullompton police as they have a real issue with it and sent people home this week who were trying to go to the bank to put cheques in, they also sent home builders who were going to work in their vans, said unless a key worker you were banned from working outside of your home ( which isn't correct at that or this time )

They have gone power mad.

They also put out a tweet ( I think it was ) saying it wasn't acceptable to go to the bank to put in a cheque, the tweet was posted on here by JP1 but I cant recall which thread that was on.
