I question whether some of the popular pub chains (mentioning no names)
are actually any good for the British meat industry?
After the first lockdown opened back up and they did that eat out voucher thing, I felt our cattle went back a touch not go higher as I thought they would have.

Bet I've sold a lot more stores at £500 over the years than you have sold barley for £100.

It's no joke for either side especially when straw was trading at £200/t.
i doubt that but i take onboard youre sentance , i dont want to start a horn v corn argument we all deserve better times. ps we are taking straw out at £125 a ton. ps again we have never paid over £1000 for so many stores.

No no it's because of brexit and as Mc115reed says "we've taken back our borders" 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Not 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️....... Your comment is spot on, the perfect storm has resulted in these rocketing prices & not because we've left the EU.... Ffs the majority of our lamb still & will always go to our mates in Europe....
Eh brexit political games have helped lamb since the referendum which alters exchange rate so brexit has helped enormously for years.

Well they normally buy all Australian beef so I guess they don't help us.
However steaks are cheap at the moment, my local butcher is selling Sirloin at £6.50 a lb and he tells me that he makes a good margin on that. However he thinks that cheap British beef will get harder to find as mince keeps getting dearer and will soon be mincing better cuts and mixing in some fat!!

The main thing that's lead to our increased prices over the last 2/3 years more than anything else is that NZ & Australian lamb isn't coming here anymore - that's the main driver underpinning it all... My old man always used to say if we could stop that bloody kiwi lamb coming we'd be far far better off.......

these price rises will fuel sheep expansion over next year or so , elms will probably help as well ,that said i remember 30,000 sheep sold at wilton in the 80s , its now more like 10,000 peak sales , an awful lot went out when arable paid an easier sub in the 90s , 5-10 years time might be a different story here for prices ,

Bet you don’t even put the euro millions on do you [emoji23] amount of times I tell people what I’d do if I won the lottery is ridiculous and Iv never bought a ticket in my life🤦🏻‍♂️
When it gets above 30 million the wife gets us a lucky dip each when she shops on a Friday morning. It’s worth winning if it’s over 30 million! 😂😂

Might take a bit longer than a year or so if the prices for hoggets stay where they are as I can see plenty of those badly bred ewe hoggets being killed.
It will take 3 years so we might even return to the old sheep cycle before we were in the EU which used to be a 5 year period, 2 great years one mediocre then the crash followed by all those big estates getting out of sheep before it comes up again!!

People help me out, I have a pen in the shed of texel X mule lambs mixed sexes which weigh anywhere between 20/30 kg all worked, mineral hepvac p etc have a buyer wanting them what are they worth?
I don’t need the space until mid March when I start lambing what would you do sell now or sit on them?
struggling here...
I’m based midlands outside buxton
I’d have them in the next Leek store sale. The job is too hot too accurately value store lambs at home at the moment!

That will have the biggest benefit for our industry , those poor hoogs sold for breeding going round and round as no-one wants to look at them for more than a year , same with rams . Hopefully will clear out the hangover from the old headage payments .
Next question whos going to be brave enough to keep ewe hoggs back if price keeps climbing ?
