First small draw of suck lambs for south molton tomorrow. 42 - 47kg.
I am hoping the tails won’t pull them back - we left them on as had a lot of trouble with joint ill last year when they came off and normally sell DW.

They were 41.6kg on the market scales and made £138. So happy with that. Didn’t see our ewes sold and haven’t been able to get hold of them.
Saw a few hoggs sold, decent 45kg sorts were around £130. Sheb will be a long in a bit with what his made

Prime Bulls (137) – A tremendous trade, a show with more than it’s fair share of dairy bred bulls averaged an amazing 225 pence per kilo, more on the milk breeds later however first mention goes to some of the extreme values witnessed for the best end of the beef bulls. Top price per kilo today was twice 266 pence, no strangers to the top slots and seemingly not willing to share on this occasion were regular supporters A G Watson & Sons, Nunstainton Grange who produced both of the terrific Limousin bulls, which as usual were fed to perfection. The gross value race was a fierce one, a stunning six times bulls today reached over £2000 and mention must go again to the Watson’s as mentioned above, also all the way from the shadows of Flamingo Land came a terrific Charolais from M & J Hayhurst and not forgetting Limousin’s from J Layfield and W J & A S Bowes & Sons who were all duly in the £2k club; all those mentioned so far however could not brush aside two perfectly produced home bred British Blonde’s from F & J S Gargett, Westwick Farm with the pick of them returning an awesome £2106. Away from the showstoppers it was business as usual for R Hall & Sons, Kilton Hall who love to top the Friesian’s, on this occasion they did so at 213ppk however they had to yield the top Friesian gross value to a well fleshed sort from J M & S Walton of Brettanby Farm at £1426. Mention as always goes to the native breeds, somewhat unusual in these parts today was a sublime South Devon up from Nottinghamshire and regular supporter J W Holmes & Son which sold for 241ppk and £1809; as usual below are listed some of today’s leading averages;
L S Staley, Marwood sold 2 Bulls to average 260ppk and £1949

Clean Cattle (165) – God bless the hospitality industry and all the catering outlets who are revving up the beef trade as they prepare to feed the nation, the result today was absolutely breath-taking, a varied show with a truly eclectic mix were all in unbelievably high demand. The heifers today averaged a wonderful 253 pence per kilo with a trio finding their way past the 300 pence landmark, amazingly twice W Swinbank & Sons of Caldwell reached 300 pence and beyond yet they failed to top the market, that prestigious honour this week fell to Gerrard Quinn of J E Suddes & Son, Rowley Farm with a sensational 562kg Limousin selling for 306 pence. Today turned out to be a good day, perhaps as good as we have ever seen outside of the Christmas and Easter shows; on such a marvellous trade then for J E Suddes & Son to also turn out the lead gross value was truly an amazing achievement, a peach of a 745kg Limousin heifer which sold for 280ppk and £2086, in some hot company it turned out that for today at least we ain’t seen nothing like the ‘Mighty Quinn’. Top of the steers today was a Hereford crossed British Blue fed to perfection from regular supporters M Robinson & Sons, Staindrop, he sold for a very impressive 268 pence per kilo and £1886. A truly remarkable trade from start to finish, some insane averages listed below certainly warrant congratulations to the breeders and feeders whilst we must also offer our appreciation to the dedicated band of butchers and wholesalers who drive the live trade week in week out making it the best way to market your cattle, sell live and thrive.

Today at South Molton
128 was mules.
Thoughts on trade would be they was probably a little less than I thought they would be compared to what I made yesterday but don't think I can complain.
Think trade would favoured the buyers a bit more today has with bigger numbers forward.
@cattleman123 if you had big heavy well fleshed they will still turn some fair money tho. Top I saw was 176 for 71kgs.
