ISLAY – United Auctions (Friday 1st October 2021) sold 4242 Feeding and Breeding sheep. 2460 lambs averaged £84.68 (+£17.65). Breeding Sheep of all classes sold well. At the show prior to the sale, the judge, Mr R Blackhall, Milton of Durris, Banchory, selected a BFL shearling, from Daniel McMillan, Tallant as his Champion which later sold to £900 to Islay Estates and his Reserve Champion was a BF shearling from Mr Elliot Bowman, Mid Craggabus, which later sold for £600 also purchased by Islay Estates. In keeping with other principal centres, lambs took a considerable rise on the previous sale and this would undoubtedly be one of dearest sales of lambs held at Bridgend.

Who said island lambs were cheap? 😳😳😳
And then maybe £2/3head haulage on top and add in your own expenses if you made the journey. They look very dear.

As I posted last week (which some took issue with), HCCare reporting kill numbers down 10% for August. If they’ve not been killed then they are still somewhere in the system.

Hopefully prices will hold steady, but we aren’t going to see the huge gains that we saw this Spring. The combined actions of too many farmers expecting a repeat, and retailers taking more of the job in hand, will keep a lid on it.
I’m wondering if the lambs are actually there, everyone I know was pushing lambs away as fast as they could before the trade fell. The fact that the fat trade has risen in the first week in October would tend to back up the shortage theory to my mind.

That mart is going to make some money! (as long as everyone pays).
Farmers tend too,its the slaughter markets that are more at risk I would say.Out of interest though there was talk of bounce back loans last year driving the store prices

You had 5 years to pay those back if you opted to so could still be used and probablybmade more than the 2.5% interest last year

If they are 10 % down in August does it mean they are still there? Or does it mean they have been killed earlier or was they born?

Over 10,000 ewes lambs at hereford tomorrow..... I'd def be going there if I were in the market for Tex/suf x.... There'll be some bargains if ur patient me thinks... Those big sales are a total waste of time after 5000 if your not selling the very very best ....
I wouldn't bet on it . The last sale the trade held up right to the very end ...the last lot being just as dear as the first lot and quite a few failed to buy any and they will be back looking today .
Might call by later ,was hoping to get in to see the bulls sold in the weaned calves but can't now .
