the handbags are coming out

Lurn something new everyday.

I knew you could find lesions at different parts of the body but never heard of it in the udder. My grandparents and uncles all drink raw milk from the tank as they hate bottled milk. Does make you think!
I had a 2nd calver a few years ago ( lovely and healthy hereford cow ) that was an IR, went clear the next test, about three weeks later she would not stand up, fine in herself and eating/ drinking fine but would not stand! vet tried everything, lifted her two/three times a day, had to call it quits after a week.

Vet opened her up as he wanted to know what was wrong with her as it made no sense she would not stand and she was riddled with TB lesions along her spine!

I had one last year with a deformed leg and the butchers just minced it… sold it as a lamb box without thinking about it and they rang up complaining there was a leg missing and they didnt want any mince 🤦‍♂️😭 explaining where the mince came from was akward

Not fake news at all. Wales are certainly considering the above ban on feeding raw milk to calves and if they do it would not surprise me if they do not follow suit this side of the bridge as well!

Thou i agree with you its complete BS and a complete nonsense!
I'm intrigued now. Can you foward a link please with the above recommendation

No as i am not that technical :( but i read it a couple of days ago in an article about the new arrangements for TB testing where they were talking about the fact they will need 3 clear whole herd TB tests to be allowed to sell breeding/store stock after a TB breakdown!

Also they were only suggesting that feeding whole milk to calves should be banned and not that it was now policy but clear from what i read some are pushing for it to be made policy sooner rather than later!

Been caught up in radial testing a few times now and that ends up with testing for six month intervals minimum 3 tests but can be up to 2 years to go from tb 1 to tb4 also requires pre movement testing

TB4 is an utter nonsense and should be stopped!

Nearly every week they are getting TB4 cattle at sedge, more risk buying them than cattle from a TB1 area.

On the 6 monthly testing, that is now standard here, will cause some farms massive problems having to test cattle in the summer months as routine every year!

That’s why I don’t charge top whack for my freezer lambs. Bent legs etc can all go for that job but can’t go mart! So if you take what you would get for them realistically and add a nice bit on, you’re still having a good do

You might say that but the fact is anyone bringing cattle north from your end usually ends up with a fat lip and a lump on their nose
So your theory is bullshite

Most here have either a decent mobile system or a decent handling system at each block. Talking to some who are testing 4,000 head every 60 days they said it’s been ongoing for so long now it’s just part of the routine now.
