If I remember rightly, there used to be 1800 plus in Kidderminster store sales on a Friday (fortnightly)plus what was in on the weekly Tuesday Market, used to have to have the inside pens empty by about 2pm ready to be refilled for the afternoon. Market gone and nowhere near the cattle in the surrounding area.
as a youth rugby on a monday plenty of stores, tuesday melton all the pens full, thursday leicester had a few, friday derby a good selection, saturday uttoxeter full up. WHERE HAVE THEY ALL GONE ?

So many businesses involved in a finished beast , they are all hungry for money all the time its hard to see how they can be more profitable ever really as as soon as we get price rise they all want a price rise .

Salisbury get 350-600 cattle every week now.
Ten years ago it was more like 35-60!

Some would have gone to Shaftesbury which has now closed but that was a pretty small market and would only account for a small portion of the increase.
Who knows where they are all coming from? A bit less TB about perhaps? (Hopefully)

Think Ramadam starts this weekend-any thoughts on the cull ewe trade for next week?

It will continue very strong, numbers of ewes are very short at this time of the year in normal circumstances, but the price has been so good plenty have been cashed.

Healthy lean ewes are being fed ready for the Festival after Ramadan.
I don't think there will be any drop off in ewe trade until more lambs are weaned in July.
