What's wrong with High Country Romneys?Wrong breeding those, sound like High Country ones or possibly extreme Waiere fluff heads.
All of ours are clean headed and no woolly socks either.

Three ways to loose money; Women the most fun, horses the fastest and fattening cattle the most certain. What was it? women, horses and fattening cattle. Sure ways to lose
Or as a well known Cumbrian farmer says “there’s easier ways to loose money than farming”Three ways to loose money; Women the most fun, horses the fastest and fattening cattle the most certain.

Where’s the greet big tuft of wool on its head at?!Much less now than there was, but they are still on the small side.
They were for a long time too prolific and too woolly.
They have got better in size recently and I am told you get less triplets.
This is a proper Romney in the picture!!

Eye wigging? Is that cutting off the top knot so they can see?We try not to breed from those with big woolly tufts on the head!!!
I remember many years ago in NZ Eye Wigging Romney Lambs. That taught me you don't need woolly heads.

I had some of @Frank-the-Wool ‘s Romney’s on turnips here last year and they seemed great sheep. Very impressed by them.
I would be slightly worried by the low scanning rate for my system (grass leys and stubble turnips in the arable rotation) but if I had plenty of permanent pasture Romney’s would be the way to go.
Fair play- I always thought Romneys were normally in the region of 1.5-1.6?what do you consider a low scanning rate ? Romneys here this year scanned over 1.8 ave, 1.9 for a big mob tupped on clover leys…… under 2% empties, lambing now, super lambs. Ewes came home from CC too fat but can cope well if we have a dry spell like last year and grass growth drops….
Horses for courses …..
