Bse was 96.....the year or two just before foot and mouth were terrible. He was right , cattle were quite profitable up to bse , with hindsight just been a bit of a joke since to be honest .
It was all sh!t from 96 till last yearBse was 96.....the year or two just before foot and mouth were terrible.
Plenty of meat wholesalers gone bust in that time too. The drop in profitability directly correlates with the rise of the supermarketAn absolute fuking fortune ! Unquantifiable amount.
Sorry meant bseHe was right , cattle were quite profitable up to bse , with hindsight just been a bit of a joke since to be honest .
They have made an absolute financial killing out of farmers the 3 - 4 decades .Plenty of meat wholesalers gone bust in that time too. The drop in profitability directly correlates with the rise of the supermarket
Cull ewes are NOT expensive currently, they are trading at the levels they should be at with current input prices!Yes but why suddenly more so…
Heard of a beef cull cow coming to over £2700 this week,673kg/dwt,thats good money.Cows in Mold market Drayton Ludlow on fire this week same as ur all saying about the ewes demand is crazy for them

Makes a mockery of the 400kg weight limits they impose for clean cattle really, though maybe a large part of that cow would be minced anyway.Heard of a beef cull cow coming to over £2700 this week,673kg/dwt,thats good money.
Told last Monday at Drayton top price blue cow was £2425 with AA to just over £2000Heard of a beef cull cow coming to over £2700 this week,673kg/dwt,thats good money.

GUTH cool your fans I agree with you…Cull ewes are NOT expensive currently, they are trading at the levels they should be at with current input prices!
It is the hogg's and Spring lamb trade that is not where it should be/ needs to be at the current time with current input prices where that are at now!
On the grain thread Wheat ex combine this harvest is being sold at £285 tonne... Makes a complete mockery of current hogg/lamb prices!
But as an aside Exeter averaged £138 for cull ewes yesterday ( up about £21 on the week )
I bet there would be some moaning on here if we were selling cull ewes now for minus £1 or minus £2 !!
Yes just before 2001 sheep job was dire. Had a decent lambing that year although it pee'd down every day kept a few extra ewes put to bfl tup think 600 mule gimmers av £24 the wedders av £25 made a decent job of them tooIm not sure things were looking that great, the sheep job was on its knees, foot and mouth was tough, but it halved the sheep flock and prices seemed to pick up accordingly afterwards.
