Beef / Lamb & Pig Price Tracker

Unless you are a buyer!! Apologies @Old Tip no photos, that is beyond me, but an increased entry and without a doubt a lot stronger show of lambs, by some way in my opinion. Champion pen 182, up 34 on year I think, and his show of lambs that were an absolute credit to him I don't think dropped below 138, I would normally buy or nearly buy his 2nd 3rd pen at mid 30s. Market average surprised me, seemed a lot dearer, but were a few pens of sc cheviot running lambs at quite low prices, that were that low they would distort the averages.

You travel along way! I had a quick look to see what the trade was like.It was hot in the ring,in more ways than one!.The mart said they broke the £1 million turnover barrier for a one day sale for their first time. The last Half Bred ewe lambs i bought were from Peter Hedley and his father, when he was still at Overacres in Northumberland. That was in the days when i could still afford them.Spare a thought for the other prominent Northumberland breeder. His son died last friday and still in his 50s i think.Very very sad!

I didn't know anything about that, nothing was said sadly in the ring, a shame. But yes trade was fierce and hot, and that ring is seriously hot and clammy so do get what you mean about hot in more than one way, and to look at a fan on roof that probably never worked but just sat there makes you hotter again. Is a fair bit of travel but if you want chev mules... and buy 360 for friends neighbours so over an arctic load brought back so it warrants a trip even if bank manager doesn't think so!! Didn't actually buy chev mules for myself this year due to a gradual shift in lambing sheep until 6 tooth, worked well for me this year I must admit, but if I had shut my eyes and listened to prices, it did worryingly sound like for like listening to the chev mule shearlings sold at the thame sheep fair. That is the truth

Breeding sales of Ewes of all ages are up by £6/10 head on the year so its only right that the younger sheep you were trying to buy today were up on the year as well.

Couldn't agree more, except I would say in theory the younger the sheep sold they should go up a touch more, as my 6tooths sold were up in that region but will have less lambs to be sold out of them so in theory should increase in less of a scale. However up that neck of the woods and just south of, the breeding sales have not been up at all and are simply on a par of last year, which to be fair they had a real go last year compared to us, but they are most definitely not up 6/10 pounds, key sale I think to gimmer lamb nc mule sales will be bentham shearling sale sat. In saying that gimmer lamb sales are never reflective to fat lamb or shearling sales, but just have a feeling this year they might be and as said Saturday will help determine that one way or another. Im a buyer at this time of year but im all for a rise, may have got it wrong that you implied otherwise, but not in my interest at all short or longterm in my theaves being upto 14 pounds up and my 6 tooth a tenner up and buying lambs 5 pound down, it really isnt bar a 4 week period. After the north south imbalance last year 3 to 5 pound up on mule gimmers is ideal in my opinion?
