I try and tot everything, surprising how they fritter away, most years 40 or 50 have gone before lambing ever starts
Yes I won't know properly till we've dosed and marked and had a count up

This is why I never bother counting them till I’ve seen them on the kill sheet….only guaranteed way to know what you’ve got
I have a clip board behind the headrest in the buggy and try to mark them down as I go round. Have reasons that I put a mark too. Dad mithers On that it’s not worth doing but I think it’s good to look back at and see where the losses are and if you can improve somewhere.
One farm last year had a lot of non viable/ premature lambs, mainly out of shearlings which was where a lot of the losses toted up. Discussed it with the vet and he said classic toxo symptoms. Vaccinated the shearlings this year and they’ve been like different sheep. Think there’s only 1 gone away with nothing that chucked lambs early on.

Good to see so many positive posts on this thread tonight (y):ROFLMAO:

And at least the longest day of the year is only 52 days away from tomorrow (y)
oh no, only 52 days left, before it goes down hill.............

reckon there's a lot of work piling up, to busy to notice longest day.

turning stores out today, :):), till we had a phone call from the vets, who had one from BCMS, who had one from the police.

A303 shut, both ways, cattle on the road. Turns out, 1 store steer, must have run straight through hedge and fence.

No damage done thankfully, steer back in shed. Had a few scares, but that is the first cattle that reached the main road, in 40 yrs. Had sheep on it once, and got someone else's cattle off twice.

someone else's sheep got on one day, helping to get them off, police parked their car, all lights flashing, in the middle of one side of the dual carriageway, cars never slowed down, just went on by, that was scary.

Yes I jot down reasons as a tally and why ewes have died, how many have slipped lamb etc, prolapses etc,
See if improvements can be made

I had 8 cows and 8 calves grazing on the hard shoulder of the M4 between the broken highways fence and the crash barrier just before the Brynglass tunnels. During the drought 2 years back, they were looking for food.
Luckily I managed to call them back through the fence before anyone important noticed.
That was the year I sold them all before I had a heart attack.

i count pigs religiously its funny how you forget yet look back ….
my 'busy' time is coming up, going around the cattle now they are out. Been a very long wet winter, yards get a bit greasy, then l get banned from going up there, bit too wobbly on me pins.

and l count them into a field, and count them every day. Son isn't so good at that.

easy way to wind him up, just ask, 'is that 20, with the bull, or not counting the bull'.

l have always counted stock, every time l go round, sometimes even the neighbours, if l feel nosey. Just don't understand why he doesn't.

Yes there's not a lot of point really but it does help a bit for budgeting if you know roughly what there is going to be to sell in the backend
I think it's important to, so you know why your loosing them, so you can see if you can improve the job.

You should count the live ones too, that should cheer you up!!
